Alibaba-owned Daraz marketplace has once again broken the previous 11.11 records for 2020 in Nepal. Although the country is suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic, Daraz is able to make record sales for a single day. Just like what Alibaba does all around the world, Daraz held the biggest online sales on November 11 in Nepal.
First hour Sales
The sales were so overwhelming that Daraz could garner sales worth NPR 2.52 crores in the first hour of the campaign launch. That means people bought a huge number of items in the period of November 11, 00 am to 01 am. This amount is 60% higher than the last year’s first hour sales. At that time, people first witnessed the stock out of Poco M2 and C3 promptly.
Daraz announced the similar record for the 11.11 event of 2019. But this year, it has become more household, with increased awareness in people. We can expect online shopping in Nepal to grow more in coming days with the flourish of platforms like Daraz.
Adoption of Digital payment
As per Daraz, the number of users making pre-payment using wallet and debit/credit cards also got surged enormously. The share of bank/wallet payment this year is 45% of the total sales, which is quite significant. This is also due to the 30% or up to Rs 3000 discount on the prepayment. But considering the convenience and safety, digital payments will surely increase more.
There were 7000+ sellers who engaged in the Daraz 11.11 sales, delivering across 27 cities of the country. The businesses were actually troubled with the pandemic but 11.11 turned out to be a blessing for the Small and medium-sized ones. Among them, those Seller benefited from Daraz Sahayatri program accounted for 23% of total orders on 11.11.
Lino Ahlering, Managing Director, Daraz Nepal expresses “Despite the challenging situation in the country, we are very glad to have successfully organized 11.11 for the third time here in Nepal. Once again we could bring something positive to shoppers but also to sellers across the country. Considering the economic situation, sales events like 11.11 can majorly uplift small and medium-sized businesses giving them a platform to sell while ensuring customers can fulfill their shopping needs safely.”
As per Daraz and some users, they were able to make the first delivery at 8 am on the event day itself. That was of-course for the first crazy/late-night buyers and was possible with people working in the wee hours. Daraz 11.11 2020 event attracted more users, sellers & buyers, making it a grand success.
Daraz had already predicted the huge number of sales. So, they had hired 700 more delivery personnel to meet the people’s expectation for prompt and safe delivery.
