Continuing with rapid expansion, Nepal’s largest telecom operator Nepal Telecom (NTC) has started mobile service in Tamankhola rural municipality-4, Lammela, Baglung for the first time. With it, the people in the area will have access to 3G internet and voice on their smartphones and other compatible gadgets.

The telco set up a mobile tower at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level and used the optical fiber for the service. With internet and voice now being available, it will help rural municipalities to serve more efficiently and allow locals to communicate and browse the internet on their devices.

Establishing mobile service in the area was part of the company’s expansion plans in rural and remote areas of Nepal.

Due to an unkind landscape, launching the service through a radio link was not feasible. This is why, the company established a link through fiber cable at a BTS tower lying in Taman, Ntc Office Incharge of Baglung, Keshav Sharma has informed.

300 households and government offices to benefit

Ntc Baglung In-charge Sharma adds that the service mainly benefits around 300 households in Soledada and Lammela villages. Both are tourist sports and will also help boost the connectivity necessary for hotel and accommodation services. This is the first time people have gained access to mobile services in the area.

“Until now, there was no mobile service in the village. But now, we have erected temporary towers and provided services through the optical fiber. Our objective is to continue providing communication services to the people of remote and remote villages. Prior to this, they have faced difficulties for years due to the lack of cell towers. Now that the mobile service has come into operation, people will get reliable services with ease,” he explains further.

Nepal faces issues with infrastructure setup due to unfavorable landscape, and it was the same with Tamankhola. Besides, the start of the rainy season proved to be another major hurdle for both technicians and transport equipment.

However, the people’s representatives and the locals’ cooperation helped the telco expand its mobile service in Tamankhola.

4G mobile service in Tamankhola in a near future

Sharma also shares that Ntc is in plans to start providing a high-speed 4G broadband network soon in the area.

Chhaprasad Sripali, the Ward Chairman of Tamankhola Village Municipality, Ward 4, shared his experience at the occasion. He said, “It was becoming very difficult to exchange information with the citizens and our people’s representatives due to lack of mobile service in a remote geography.” We have arranged optical fiber wires as there is a problem in linking the radio for the expansion of mobile services in the area. ‘

In recent months, Ntc has accelerated its efforts to expand mobile services around the country. The company has aligned its expansion plans well in line with the ethos of the Digital Nepal Framework. The efforts by leading telcos including especially Ntc have greatly contributed to bridging the digital divide through mobile communications.
