Nepal Telecom (NTC) has started operation of an information highway using optical fiber cable that stretches from Manma of Kalikot to up to Gamgadhi of Mugu Via Jumla. The groundbreaking infrastructure uses an All-dielectric self-supporting (ADSS) optical fiber technology.
The expansion of the information highway helps improve mobile data (Ntc 4G) and fiber broadband services in Kalikot, Jumla, Mugu, etc. The company has set objectives of improving extending and improving its services across Nepal. To realize this aims, it has aggressively expanded mobile and fixed line services in remote and rural regions. The operation of information highway from Kalikot to Mugu help deliver more quality services to more customers.
If you were unaware, All-dielectric self-supporting (ADSS) technology uses fiber cables that support itself without using conductive metal components. This system removes the need to use “messenger’ wires so it’s easy and economical to deploy for a company.
Ntc also expects that it serves as a key foundation for new technologies coming in the future.

Nepal Telecom brings into operation information highway in Kalikot and Mugu
Nepal Telecom has used its fiber-based information highway infrastructure to power its NT Fiber (FTTH) service and mobile services in different parts of Kalikot, Jumla and Mugu. Additionally, the company has begun operation of NT TV service from 2081-12-08 in the same areas, which was not possible before as the network was operational via Microwave Backhaul. Now that the optical fiber backhauling is in place, Nepal Telecom expects to improve its service quality, capacity while it also eases on the future service expansion.
Optical fiber delivers optimal performance in telecom service due to higher capacity transmission and more reliability. Therefore, Ntc will now be able to provide high-quality services with the newly completed information highway in these districts. The company has also called the start of information highway in such remote mountainous districts like Kalikot, Jumla, Mugu; a milestone for the industry.
With service expansion, customers in will have a first-hand experience of better-quality services. At the same time, Ntc has also installed an alternative route for telecom services to avoid service interruption.
