Samsung Note 20 Ultra review

Recently, I have got my hands into the Latest Ultra Premium Flagship device from Samsung. Yeah, it’s Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and it’s the all-rounder power-packed device I used to this date. I spent a week with the device and it made me Wow all the time. So, let me share my experience with this device to you and start this Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Review.

120Hz Display and Premium Design

When I first turned on the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, I was right away impressed by the display. The display is 6.9-inch sized Dynamic 2x AMOLED HDR10+ Edge which produces color in a magnificent way. 1440x3088p resolution just blows you up while viewing videos or pictures. Well, my friend has got an OnePlus 8 Pro and the display is better in Galaxy Note 20 Ultra that that device.

Further, it is of 120Hz refreshed rate which makes scrolling new feed and gaming experience super smooth. The center confined notch never disturbs while viewing and the Under-display fingerprint scanner is faster than sound ‘Ultra-sonic’.

Coming to the design, it’s super-premium. Latest Gorilla Glass Victus (Gorilla Glass 7) rocks on both the Front and Back of the device. It protects the device from getting scratches, dents, and so on. The device is full metal built which makes the build bolder and stronger. The device comes with IP68 water/dust resistance

The power button and volume rockers are placed at the right edge whereas the SIM tray at the top edge. On the bottom edge, the USB Type-C port, Speaker grill, and S-Pen port are kept. You can change the Power button to a Dedicated Bixby button but do you ever use it?? Not me though!!!. Yes, the 3.5mm headphone jack is missing.

The color finishes are just awesome. I got the Mystic Black that looks really gorgeous. The rear panel is so polished that it almost acts like a mirror. I fixed my hair while looking at the rear panel. But the sad part is that is too much fingerprint dents friendly. The phone itself is quite big but comfortable to hold in one hand. However, I found it difficult to use it with one hand. The curves on the edges add more comfortability while holding.

Almighty 108MP Triple-Camera Setup

How could a phone review be complete without discussing the camera!! Let’s come to the camera performance in this Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Review. The camera performance just blew everyone’s mind. It has a Triple-Camera setup but the lenses are far bigger than other flagship devices. The combination of 108MP Main sensor, 12MP Ultra-wide sensor, and 12MP Telephoto Lens describes perfection. 5X Optical zoom is really great to take candid photos from a distance.

50x Zoom launches itself directly in space but the ultimate zoom higher than 10X is quite grainy and not decent enough due to the hybrid zoom. But if you have an eyesight issue, you can definitely use the higher zoom to read a text.

Portraits photos, Wide-Angle, Live Focus, Panorama, Landscape photos, and everything else is just awesome. In Portrait Photos, the background is blurred while keeping the object focus and preserving the color contrast and edge details. Wide-Angle photos go really wide and Live Focus is good as it should be.

The Night Mode is so powerful that it catches sharp, bright photos while preserving the details. Night Mode photos are well-balanced and well color saturated. Optical Image Stabilization and Electronic Image Stabilization further adds enhancements to the photos. The photos are so detailed and crystal clear that you can snap a faraway object and zoom it to explore.

Nevertheless, the front camera is also on its own level. Even if the sensor is of just 10MP, it’s results can surpass higher-end sized sensors. Combining it with Live Focus feels as if sketching your own portrait. The background are well blurred and your face is nicely focused. Selfies are vibrant, crisp, clear, and of top-notch quality.

When it comes to Video Recording, Galaxy Note 20 records stabilized video even in 8K. 4K and 1080p videos are super stabilized and feel movie-like. Sometimes I felt like a content creator on the Pro level. Slow-mo Mode can give up to 960fps in 1080p resolution and 240fps in 1080p. The front camera can also record well-stabilized videos in 4K at 30fps/60fps. Live Focus video is supported in both rear and front camera setup.

I’ve even used the iPhone 11 Pro Max and trust me the camera performance of the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra excels.

Exynos 990, One UI 2.1 And 256 Storage

The name Ultra suits the device for its performance. A combination of Exynos 990 chipset with Mali-G77 MP11 GPU and High clock speed Octa-core processor delivers ultra performance. Exynos 990 does all the hard work while Mali-G77 MP11 handles all the high graphics work. The Octa-core processors smoothly handle all the heavy workload. I got myself the 8GB RAM and 256GB storage variant one for the review.

    Gaming Performance

The 8GB RAM enhanced the performance of the device. On the software side, One UI 2.1 is there based on top of an Android 10 OS. You can update One UI 2.1 to One UI 2.5. No worries for the Android 11 OS update, Samsung has you covered. Samsung has itself a Game Booster which helps in enhancing gaming performance. Combining all these with a 120Hz display and Dolby Atmos stereo speakers, you get the best gaming experience.

I played Asphalt 9 and the experience was amazing. No lag, no frame drops, no nothing just smooth gaming with top-notch sound quality and high graphics. Asphalt 9 is a heavy game though the device handled it in an Ultra way. But the sad part is I felt the device heat a bit while gaming. It may be because of the 120Hz display that uses more power.

256GB internal storage is all you need to store your large-sized files. You can also expand the storage up to 1TB via a dedicated MicroSDXC card slot. Already feels like a Hard Disk and you still have cloud storage. The performance of Galaxy Note 20 Ultra deserves serious praise.

4500mAh Battery And Connectivity

The 4500mAh battery does the perfect job of juicing the device. Battery size may sound a little because nowadays most of the mid-range device comes with 5000mAh battery. Even the midrange Samsung Galaxy M31 device comes with a 6000mAh battery. Nevertheless, the battery performance in Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is good but not great.

It sucked up a 3% juice when streamed a music video on Youtube while at 120Hz display, Maxed volume speakers, and brightness. The battery also drained a bit fast while gaming. If you reduce the refresh rate of the display than you might get good results in battery performance.

However, the 25W Fast Charging comes handy while the juice drains. I was surprised when even 25W Fast charging charged up the device faster than other 25W FAst charging supported phones. Might be a flagship benefit though. I never got the chance to test the 9W Reverse Wireless Charging.

For connectivity, the device comes with Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, Type-C 1.0 Reversible connector, USB 3.2, Dolby Atmos Stereo Speakers, and last but not least UWB. UWB stands for Ultra Wide Band and lets you transfer files at high speed by just pointing. 3.5mm headphone is not there as before and you may need to buy other earphones like Samsung Galaxy Earbuds Live. 5G Model isn’t available in Nepal so you will only get 4G models.

The wireless DeX on your TV and the Nearby Share feature are two of the superb features available in the Smartphone. With the Wireless Dex, you can easily get the desktop-like experience of Note 20 Ultra on your Smart TV.

Enhanced S-Pen

The S-Pen stylus is the identity of the Note series. Every year Samsung enhances and adds features to it whilst keeping latency improvement always in mind. The new enhanced faster responding S-Pen on Galaxy Note 20 Ultra might be the best one to date. You can notice the S-pen port on the left bottom unlike Note 10. The latency and interaction with these ones are better than of Galaxy Note 10 Series.

The Latency is 3x faster and gives a real pen-like experience. Integration of the Accelerator and Gyroscope helps it to support the all-new motion and gesture controls. You can also find better camera gestures in this S-Pen. Every time you write or use it, you can hear writing sounds coming out of the speaker.

The sound is similar to the sound when the pen writes on a paper. It feels satisfying and enhances the overall experience. During my Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Reviewperiod, I found the new faster response enhanced S-Pen to be one of the main highlights of the device.

Verdict

Now let me sum up all the things I noticed about the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Review. First of all, let’s talk about the price, Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra price in Nepal 1 Lakh 40 Thousand for the 8GB/256GB variant. Yes, people looking for a premium phone for their professional/business/regular usage, will definitely buy this phone.

The good part of this Ultra-premium device is that it has got everything that is needed for a Top-notch Flagship smartphone. 120Hz AMOLED display, Performance, Camera setup, and S-Pen, everything is just great. But the 3.5mm headphone jack is where I felt sad because myself a music lover would love to use my existing wired headsets with it. This is only for me though.

One issue I noticed is its fast-draining battery. The battery performance isn’t that great but you can improve it by decreasing the refresh rate of the display.

Last but not least, there is some issue with heating. Though it doesn’t heat that much, you can clearly feel the heat of the device when you use it without any cover. The heating issue might be caused by its 120Hz display and heavy performance. Hopefully, they might come up with OS updates to improve the battery and heating issue. If Samsung resolves this two-issues, then the Note 20 Ultra will definitely become the best phone of the year 2020.
