3 Candidates Recommended for Nepal Telecom’s MD Post

3 candidates has been recommended to fulfill the vacant post of Nepal Telecom (Ntc) MD (Managing Director). Under the leadership of Baikuntha Aryal, the MoCIT Secretary, the responsible committee finalized 3 candidates to become Ntc’s next MD.

The three candidates are Mr. Sunil Poudel, Mrs. Sangita Pahadi, and Mr. Buddhi Acharya.

The meeting of the Council of Ministers will now select one candidate to lead the government-backed operator. The decision could arrive today (April 7th) as cabinet meeting is underway.

Ntc has been in search of its new leadership for months after former MD Dilliram Adhikari’s tenure came to an end on January 6th. To fill up the vacant post, the company published a vacancy that received backlash as former employees filed a writ at the Supreme Court. In response, the Court gave an interim order that held up the quest for a while. But recently, the Court dismissed the writ. After that verdict, Ntc had its path clear to appoint its new MD.

Initially, the operator had 9 candidates vying for the post. The committee under MoCIT has now shortlisted 3 among them. The government will soon make a decision on who leads the telco.

In an unconfirmed news, the meeting yesterday at MoCIT has recommended three names for the post. They are Mrs. Sangita Pahadi, Mr.Sunil Poudel, and Mr.Buddhi Acharya. Mrs. Pahadi is serving as the Chief Commercial Officer while Mr.Acharya is the former Ntc MD. Thi will be his second coming in the post if he is selected. Mr. Poudel, on the other hand, is currently serving as the Executive Director at National Information Technology Center (NITC) and is the only outsider among the 3 candidates.

And again Nepal Telecom Workers’ Union (NTCWU) has demanded that the company’s MD must be from within the company. They also organized a sit-in protest at the central office against a possible selection of an outsider for the company’s leadership position.

Apart from it, Ntc has been cleared of any legal objections by the Supreme Court. Government will now select one candidate to lead Nepal’s largest telecom company for the next 4 years.

Meanwhile, Pratibha Vaidya is serving as the Acting Managing Director for the time being.
