Nepal Telecom’s newly appointed MD Sunil Poudel has taken his office on April 8th, 2022. He was appointed to the post at the meeting of the Council of Ministers on April 7th.
The incumbent Mr.Poudel expressed his delight at his appointment as the new MD of Nepal Telecom. He extended his gratitude to the MoCIT for allowing him to take responsibility as per his action plan strategies. Now, he will serve 4 years in the post as the leader of the company.
Mr.Poudel is the former Executive Director at National Information Technology Center at the MoCIT. He served there for 18 years in various positions such as Computer Engineer, Assistant Director, and Deputy Director. As for his qualification, the new Ntc MD Poudel has received his Master in Information Technology from the Advanced Institute of Science and Technology in South Korea.
He will now replace Pratibha Vaidya who has been serving as the Acting MD after Dilliram Adhikari’s tenure came to an end last December.
On the same occasion, he shared that he will quickly focus on furthering the digitalization of the company’s services. He added that all the work and duties at the company would shift digital and turn automatic. Mr. Poudel also added that everyone at the company must commit to providing convenient and accessible service to the public.

Further, Mr.Poudel pointed to the challenges in service delivery, quality, and revenues growth. He expressed his determination to overcome those challenges and establish the company as a benchmark for providing reliable services.
While taking office, Mr.Poudel expressed his desire to steer the country on the path of progress through information and technology. Likewise, He said he would dedicate himself to delivering the public advanced telecommunications and widen its access to more.

Protest over Poudel’s appointment
Even though Mr.Poudel has taken office as the MD of Nepal Telecom, NTCWU has continued its objection to his selection. The employee unions had, even before, kept warning the MoCIT against appointing an ‘outsider’ as the new NTC MD. And now the employee union has expressed their disapproval of his incoming.
The Union released a statement and ‘strongly condemned’ Mr.Poudel’s appointment as the company’s new MD. It further alleged that Mr.Poudel’s appointment was preplanned and the Ntc MD appointment and benefits directives were amended to make his selection feasible. Likewise, the Union has warned the MoCIT to reverse its decision or it will resort to action.
The Union called the ‘rigged appointment’ of Mr.Poudel ‘an attack on good governance.’
