Nepal Telecommunications Authority warns against the use of signal boosters to use Indian mobile services. In a notice released Sunday, March 30, 2025, the regulator warned that it will take action against those who are using illegal means to operate foreign (Indian) telecom services in Nepal.

The authority issued the warning after finding instances of signal boosters being in use for Indian cellular services. It said that doing so breaches telecom rules of Nepal and stated that those involved in it will face action as per Nepal’s telecommunications policies.

Generally, signal boosters are devices that help increase the coverage of mobile signals to a wider area. These boosters help improve cellular signals and deliver better call quality. Mobile signal reception is poor in basements, homes, inside of vehicles, etc. However, signal boosters help maintain a decent mobile signal even in such areas. They are used in Nepal, especially in border areas, to access Indian telco services.

But using them to improve Indian carrier signals inside Nepal is against the law.
