The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has contributed Rs 150 million (Rs 15 crore) in institutional support for the relief, rescue, and rehabilitation of citizens affected by the floods in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa.
The telco deposited the funds into the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund, handing over the cheque at a program held at the Ministry of Finance. In the presence of the Communications Minister Dr. Bikram Timilsina, NTA Chairman Arjun Ghimire handed over the cheque to Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle.
The Bhotekoshi River floods have devastated a large number of areas, claiming lives and damaging physical infrastructure. To respond, various organizations have continued to pour their support for the rescue, relief, and rehabilitation of affected citizens. As part of these efforts, the NTA decided to make an institutional contribution to disaster management.
Nepal’s two leading operators, Nepal Telecom and Ncell, have also been contributing with funds and free resources to keep connectivity on for the users and help with rescue efforts.

NTA comes forward helping Bhotekoshi flood victims
NTA spokesperson Min Prasad Aryal said that, besides the institutional contribution for the Bhotekoshi flood victims, the Authority has also decided to make contributions from its employees and officials.
He shared that NTA employees will contribute a portion of their salaries, while office-bearers will contribute from their remuneration and board meeting allowances to support flood-affected citizens.
As per the decision, first-class officers will contribute an amount equivalent to eight days of their starting salary scale. Similarly, second-class officers will contribute an amount equivalent to six days’ salary, while third-class officers will contribute four days’ salary.
Assistant-level employees will contribute an amount equivalent to two days’ salary, while non-classified employees will contribute one day’s salary.
Likewise, the NTA chairman will contribute an amount equivalent to 10 days’ salary and allowances equivalent to two board meetings. NTA board members will also contribute an amount equivalent to two days of their board meeting allowances.
Earlier, NTC employees also contributed to the PM’s Disaster Relief Fund for Bhoekoshi flood victims, while the company also lent its institutional support of Rs 10 crore.
Being a regulator, NTA has also been coordinating with telcos and stakeholders to keep the connectivity running in the affected areas. It has collaborated with telcos and ISPs like Dish Home to bring satellite communications in flood-affected places. According to the authority, the Bhotekoshi floods have affected telco infrastructure worth Rs 45 crore.
The authority says that it prioritizes service restoration and rebuilding of telco infrastructure in the affected areas. It’s also taking stringent measures to prevent network outages during disasters.
