Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has warned against the unauthorized termination (delivery) of international A2P (Application to Person) SMS in Nepal. The regulator has even mentioned taking action if the illegitimate service doesn’t stop.
The authority released a notice issuing a warning to any individual or organization not to issue SMS in Nepal. In its notice, NTA clarified that the Telecom Act 2053 only lets licensed companies provide SMS termination facilities. These are companies with a license for Basic Telephone and Mobile Service and International Trunk Telephone (ILD). However, the authority noted that other organizations are also terminating A2P SMS to dispatch SMS. And they are using the network of licensed Nepali service providers.

NTA to take action against illegal A2P SMS termination in Nepal
NTA has warned that it will take action according to the law against entities that are involved in illegal A2P SMS termination in Nepal. It has requested that anyone concerned not continue the same.
It’s not the first time that NTA has had to warn against illegal telecom service delivery. Just recently, it warned against illegally providing satellite internet in the upper region of Nepal. Similarly, it released a notice to discourage mobile signal booster use in Nepal-India border areas.

Any person or organization providing any communication without a license from the government could pose security risks. They may not be trustworthy, and if any mishap occurs, the service provider won’t be accountable to redress. Therefore, users should also be wary of it.
The Telco Act 2053 only allows licensed companies to provide any type of communication services, including A2P SMS termination.
