Nepal’s smartphone import sees major growth in FY 2081/82

Smartphones in College life

Smartphone import grew in Nepal in FY 2081/82 by 24 percent. According to the Department of Customs report, smartphones worth Rs 35.54 billion were imported into Nepal in FY 2081/82.

The report shows a significant boost in smartphone trading in Nepal. It does prove that the smartphone market has revived following a major slowdown during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. People were holding on to their phones for much longer; however, things seem to be changing now that the pandemic is far behind.

Better days coming for the smartphone import in 2082?

The Customs Department figure already encourages the industry. However, things could go further green for the market around the holiday season. Most Nepalese tend to spend big during the Dashain Tihar holiday season. Likewise, the industry is likely to expect huge sales during the period, which accounts for a large share of businesses throughout the year.

Nepal remains a price-sensitive market, so budget phones are sold in large volumes (check out best budget 5G phones). But despite that, flagship phones also draw traction among buyers. As the market continues to pull in positive numbers, the year 2082 (and FY 2082/83) could have more in the bag for the smartphone industry.

An experienced tech writer covering news mostly on telecommunication, internet, latest tech & trends, and Gadgets. Being a technophile, I am particularly fascinated by the evolution of mobile networks in Nepal from legacy networks (2G, 3G) to 4G (with VoLTE, VoWiFi, eSIM) and the prospects of the upcoming 5G, and equally enthralled by the development of internet from the dial-up connection to the 2 Gbps XGS-PON fiber broadband technology and their transformative impact in the country.
