The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation has shared a plan to bring wireless internet services to public places in the flood-affected areas in Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts. The initiative seeks to bring connectivity to schools, health posts, ward offices, and public areas that have seen internet disruption after the devastating Bhotekoshi floods on August 26, 2026.
Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation Mahabir Pun shared the decision in a Facebook post on September 29, 2026. In the post, he said that the ministry is currently testing equipment necessary to provide internet services. Adding further, he said that the equipment was received from a US-based organization called ICT4D and it will be used to expand communication services in the flood-affected areas.
Prior to this, Nepal’s top ISPs and telcos have also started satellite services to ensure connectivity in the affected region. ISPs and telcos suffered minor to major infrastructure damage due to the Bhotekoshi floods. However, they quickly stepped up and restored the services. In some regions, they are providing satellite-based communications so that users are not deprived of communication.
Wireless internet in Bhotekoshi flood-affected areas in Rasuwa and Nuwakot
Minister Mahabir Pun said that ICT4D had sent the equipment to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority. The gear is currently being tested at the ministry. After the test, it will be taken to the planned locations for installation.
Pun said that the objective is to provide internet access to villages across the affected districts through wireless connectivity.
In the first phase, the ministry plans to provide internet access to various villages located above Betrawati. Minister Pun says that internet services will be established at schools, health posts and ward offices in Bogatitar of Ward No. 5, Laharepouwa, Thulogau, Dadagaun and Panchalinge of Ward No. 4, as well as in Tiru, Haku and Pangling.
After the first phase is completed, the ministry will expand wireless internet in further locations located higher up.
