Nepal Telecom (NTC) has launched 4G in Simbokpa hill in Bhotkhola Rural Municipality of Sankhuwasabha district. The modern mobile broadband connectivity enables the locals and tourists in the area to benefit from high-speed data and reliable voice services.

The 4G service went on air with a new 4G tower in the area, thanks to cooperation from various stakeholders. A technical team led by telecom engineer Ashish Acharya, Ward No. 2 Chairperson of the rural municipality Jippa Bhote, Nepal Army personnel, and locals installed the tower. Nepal Telecom has stated that the team was successful in installing the tower and launching 4G service by taking into account the remote and difficult mountainous terrain.

The company has also shared that it will bring modern communication services to the Kimathanka area of Bhotkhola Rural Municipality-1 within a few days.

With Ntc 4G launch in Simbokpa, Bhotkhola Rural Municipality, the locals, local businesses, government/private agencies, and the tourists will all benefit from high-quality broadband services. Besides that, users can enjoy HD-voice service by activating Ntc VoLTE on their phones.

The expansion of 4G in the remote region aligns with the company’s objective of connecting all the remote areas in the country. The company sees slim revenue potential from geographically adverse and thinly populated areas. However, being a national telco, it keeps focusing on establishing reliable telecom services in all parts of the country.

So far, Ntc 4G coverage has reached over 98% of local levels. At the pace it is expanding, there may be a blanket penetration by the end of FY 2082/83. 4G brings high-speed data, HD voice through VoLTE, and a true mobile broadband experience before 5G in Nepal. So, the state-backed company is aiming to complete 4G expansion before it launches 5G in Kathmandu and Pokhara.

An experienced tech writer covering news mostly on telecommunication, internet, latest tech & trends, and Gadgets. Being a technophile, I am particularly fascinated by the evolution of mobile networks in Nepal from legacy networks (2G, 3G) to 4G (with VoLTE, VoWiFi, eSIM) and the prospects of the upcoming 5G, and equally enthralled by the development of internet from the dial-up connection to the 2 Gbps XGS-PON fiber broadband technology and their transformative impact in the country.
