For the candidates, the communication ministry has made some revisions to make them eligible. According to the ministry, the candidates must be Nepali citizens between 30 and 65 years of age. They should have worked in a gazetted first-class, eleventh level or higher position, and for a person working in any association, organization, or company, should have gained experience by working for a period as per Rule 3 of the Telecommunications Regulations, 2054 BS. A good number of applicants have been from Nepal Telecom (NTC) with years of experience in the telecom field, while some of them have been retired from various organizations including Nepal Telecom, NTA and more.
MoCIT will now short list the list of the candidates for the chairman of NTA and its board members and proceed to their appointment. It’s expected that the ministry under Dr. Bikram Timilsina will complete the procedure soon, as there’s a pile of work ongoing for the telco sector in Nepal. This includes the upcoming 5G spectrum auction and the launch of 5G in Nepal, and the expansion of 4G services across the country.
