Nepal Telecom (NTC) says that there has been confusion among the public and media regarding the people currently protesting outside its main office premises at Bhadrakali Plaza in Kathmandu. In a notice, the company said that it has nothing to do with the protestors as the telco tried to clarify the puzzle.

Protestors comprise 217 assistant technicians who are demading reinstatement into the job. The have reasoned their long tenure of serving as the basis for more work days. However, the company is firm that the agreement with the outsourcing company through which they were working has concluded and so their service is no longer valid at the telco.

“Ntc makes agreements with various service providers for service operation, expansion, and maintenance works at various times,” the telco says. The telco states that while doing so, it has always adhered to the prevailing rules and laws of the country. It then maintained that the agreement proceeds and concludes with a fixed time frame and work specifications. “After the completion of the project, the contract with the service providers also terminates,” the telco said in its statement.

The agreement has already expired-Ntc on people protesting outside its main office premises

Regarding the protest, the state-backed operator says the contract period with the previous company has already expired. So currently, the company is receiving service from another service provider which earned the contract on the basis of competition.

In such a situation, “the manpower belonging to the previous service provider is making many demands outside its main office”. The telco says that since the agreement has already ended with the company in concern, it has got nothing to do with people protesting.
