Nepal Telecom (NTC) has officially released a statement raising awareness as a Christmas and New Year gift scam spreads on Facebook and other social media platforms.
If you have used Facebook or especially Messenger currently, then you might have been a recipient of a message with a link that includes “nepaltelecom” in its URL. That’s what we are talking about here. It’s in fact a blank message and is a scam. Sadly enough, it’s spreading wildly through Facebook at the moment and likely on other digital platforms too. So, beware and do not click the link.
The company has requested users to stay alert about an ongoing scam on social networks. The said case claims that Nepal Telecom is offering up to Rs 5000 cash and gifts on the occasion of the upcoming Christmas and New Year 2025 (Gregorian year). Ntc is not running any such campaigns at all.
Scams are everywhere and while some are conspicuous and easy to notice, others are quite hard to decipher for the less versed such as SIM Swap Scam. Unfortunately, the latest Christmas gift scam has already duped many users which has forced the company to formally make a statement.

What’s up with the scam?
As is common, the scam involves a post (or a fake one) with a link on Facebook or Messenger. To make it convincing, the scammers have used nepaltelecom in the front part of the URL followed by random numbers and letters. Also to mention, I noticed, the URL has “.xyz” at its end. I also found that the numbers and letters are variable. Check out the screenshot of the message that users have received in their Messenger app.
Some users have stated when they clicked the link, a message was sent to other contacts on their Facebook friend list.

Nepal Telecom issues an alert on Christmas gift scam on Facebook
As the scam runs wildly through Facebook and its Messenger app, Nepal Telecom has urged users to stay alert and not give in to the temptation to click the link. The company has required users to only stay up-to-date with its services through its Facebook and X (formerly) accounts with an official blue tick.
Internet and especially, social media can be a place of fun and learning, but are also subject to being a platform for scammers. This Christmas gift scam should be one to be extremely alert against. We urge readers not to click on any link claiming that Ntc is offering any gift or cash price on the occasions of Christmas and New Year 2025. For any updates, services, and offers, only the company’s official pages should be followed.
