Ncell has become the first and only company in Nepal to be listed as a data center and cloud service provider. The Department of Information Technology (DoIT), which operates under the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MoCIT), enrolled Ncell on Sunday, April 20, 2025, for both services. The event marks a milestone for the private telecom giant as it continues to grow and expand its range of services in the country.

The company achieved its enrollment under full compliance with the rules and regulations stated in the Directive for the Operation of Data Centre and Cloud Services 2025. That means the telco pays a high high-level of attention to specifications for both services’ efficiency and security. Likewise, the DoIT inspected the telco’s infrastructure and reviewed its applications to confirm its eligibility for the services. The department found that the company followed all the operational standards and met security protocols to become a data center and cloud service provider.

Ncell fulfilled regulatory requirements ahead of time for data center and cloud services

Importantly, the directive for the operation and management of data centers and cloud services requires that service providers enroll with DoIT within six months of the directive’s issuance. Ncell completed the process well ahead of the deadline.

Additionally, as the directive demands, Ncell has obtained certifications for operating data centers and offering cloud services. Therefore, it’s in full compliance with the legal framework of the country.

But the company is not new to operating data centers. Ncell operates a tier 3 Integrated Data Centre (IDC) in Nakkhu. Through this data center, the company can provide services to banks, government offices, and large businesses. It also operates two disaster recovery data centers in Pokhara and Hetauda.

Ncell enlisted as a data center and cloud service provider with DoIT inspection

Ncell was enlisted as a data center and cloud service provider following a thorough inspection by the DoIT. The department reviewed Ncell’s documents, fire safety protocols, security policies, data center tier classification, IP pool details, etc. The company ensured strict compliance with the government for its data center and cloud services.

“Our commitment to international standards, prioritisation of cybersecurity, and focus on data privacy contributed to the smooth enrolment process. Ncell has become the FIRST & ONLY company in Nepal to receive this recognition from the government. Given the growing market for data centres and cloud services, this certification holds significant importance.  We are grateful to the DoIT for this recognition, which reflects Ncell’s readiness to support ICT development in alignment with the Digital Nepal vision,” said Dion Asencio, Chief Business Officer of Ncell.

Ncell believes that its formal enrollment as both a data center and cloud service provider enhances regulation, transparency, and cybersecurity in the industry.
