Apple has finally unveiled the iPhone 16 series at its “Glowtime” event organized at Cupertino, California, USA on September 09. The magnum opus iPhone 16 series consisting of iPhone 16 standard and plus, then Pro variants are the company’s best phones to date. Let’s delve into the much-anticipated iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max specifications, features, iOS 18, and its expected price in Nepal in this tell-all post.

Design and display
Apple has opted for a less revolutionary leap in the phone’s design with the latest iPhones as both Pro lineups share a similar design with the iPhone 15 Pros. But that is not to say that it’s underwhelming. Both feature industry-leading strong and lightweight Titanium frames and are protected by the latest-generation ceramic shield which is 2x tougher than glass. Apple also says that the two boast the thinnest borders on any Apple product released to date. The flagship’s handsets come in four colors- black, white, natural, and a new “desert titanium.”
The boxy camera module rests on the rear in a familiar setting- three cameras are housed in a bar that is raised from the surface. The edges of the phone retain round shapes. To enhance the camera experience, Apple has now added a new camera control button on the side which blends in perfectly with the phone’s color.
But it’s the display where it gets interesting improvement. The iPhone 16 Pro gets larger at the 6.3-inch screen while the iPhone 16 Pro Max gets a 6.9-inch display with each getting a 120 Hz refresh rate. To compare, the iPhone 15 Pro had a 6.1-inch and the iPhone 15 Pro Max model had a 6.7-inch display. The latest iterations are powered by LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED displays with Always-On and ProMotion technologies, Apple says that users “can accomplish more.” The phones are secured by IP68 dust and water protection.
Performance
Both iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max source their power from the new A18 Pro chipset which comes with a 16-core neural engine. Built-in the 3nm process, the hexacore processor is 15% faster in performance than the previous model. Apple has also improved the GPU which now delivers 20% faster performance from iPhone 15 Pros.
The iPhone 16 Pro Max comes with 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB internal storage while the iPhone 16 Pro starts at 128GB and also serves 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB options. Both phones rock an 8 GB of RAM.
A18 Pro chip is designed with Apple Intelligence in mind. So, brace yourselves for a plethora of AI features coming with the iOS 18.1 release in October. Both iPhones run on iOS 18 as the other standard and Plus ones.

Apple Intelligence
iPhone 16 will start Apple Intelligence AI features with iOS 18.1. The features will enable users to click pictures and instantly get information on them, get email and notification summaries, schedule actions on the phone, etc. Of course, there are a whole lot more coming with the Apple Intelligence but users will need to wait till October. It will start for free in a beta form.
Apple has also integrated ChatGPT services, so the AI features on iPhones will be very powerful and versatile.
Camera
This time, Apple has added a new 48 MP ultrawide (Fusion) camera in the iPhone 16 Pro models which accompany the 48 MP main wide camera and the 12 MP periscope camera with 5x optical zoom in a triple camera setup on the back. Noticeably, the iPhone 16 Pros cameras can take videos at 4K at 120 fps.
Likewise, there’s a 12 MP selfie camera on the front which also supports OIS. Similarly, the camera can record videos at 4K at 60 fps. iPhones are popular for photography and it won’t be different at all. More so, the new camera control button adds more functionality.

Camera Control button
The sleek Camera Control button offers quick access to the camera allowing you to “adjust various camera features simply by sliding your finger.” You can click the Camera Control button to click photos, record videos, and preview to focus on framing the shot,” Apple said.
The button also works with Visual Intelligence to give a sort of mixed reality service from a headset. For eg, you can hold your phone and click and hold the Camera Control button to get information about restaurants or you can snap a photo of a dog and get details about its species. The Visual Intelligence though will come later this year.
Battery and connectivity
Apple is claiming “a huge leap in battery life” in its Pro phones. In particular, the company claims that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will have the “best battery life on iPhone ever” enabled by internal optimization and the new A18 Pro chip.
To be specific, the iPhone 16 Pro Max features a 4,676 mAh battery while the Pro one gets a 3,355 mAh cell. According to Apple, the Por Max gives up to 33 hours of video playback and 27 hours of video playback on the “vanilla” Pro variant. The batteries on both Pro iPhones charge 50% in 30 minutes. Both iPhones support 25W wireless MagSafe, 15W wireless Qi2, and 4.5W reverse wired charging.
The phones support 5G, WiFi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, etc. for communication and feature USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 2 for the charging port. Both 16 Pros support Emergency SOS satellite connectivity too which is handy in emergency situations to contact someone when there is no cellular option.

iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max price in Nepal and availability
The iPhone 16 Pro with 8/128 GB starts at US price $999 which could mean that it could cost around Rs 175,999. The iPhone 16 Pro Max with 8/256 GB starts at $1,199 and we expect it to cost in the region of Rs 210,999 in Nepal.

The preorder started in 58 countries on September 13 and will be available from September 20 onwards. Soon, Apple will make the phones available in 21 countries too. The iPhone 16 series could be launched in Nepal in October 2024.
Our initial verdict
Apple has designed the latest-generation iPhones with AI in mind, however, the purists can also find several new features to accentuate their brand loyalty and affinity with the product. The Pro models are now larger, have more powerful processors, and let’s not forget the versatile camera control button.
