Ncell VoLTE roaming starts

Ncell says that from Monday, August 04, 2025, its customers visiting India can enjoy VoLTE roaming on their phones. The telco has partnered with Airtel in India to bring this service to its users. So, if you are in India or making a plan to visit soon, you may want to buy a subscription for this to get HD voice calling/receiving. And the company has started testing with several operators in other countries, find details below.

Check out: How to activate international roaming in Ncell?

What is VoLTE roaming?

VoLTE roaming is a service that enables users to place and receive HD voice calls on 4G network while abroad on other’s network. The service allows superior calls thanks to VoLTE technology and reliable data service via LTE infrastructure.

The service becomes super useful in conditions where there is no 2G or 3G networks and only 4G is available. As 4G doesn’t natively support voice calls, VoLTE brings up that service with high-quality that is not achieved over legacy networks. Check out Top 9 Features of VoLTE.

With the absence of VoLTE roaming, you need to rely on 2G or 3G for making calls even if your phone supports VoLTE. Similarly, for roaming in countries without 2G or 3G network, before you had no option for native phone calling.

Ncell already provides affordable roaming services to its customers for CS calls and mobile data. But the VOLTE roaming further adds better service as well as value to the users.

But do remember that this service is not just for Nepalese going abroad (Outbound roaming). It’s also available to travelers who visit Nepal for various reasons aka Inbound roaming. That is to say, international roamers who come to Nepal for exploration, businesses, or other purposes can avail of Ncell VoLTE roaming service for HD voice and more services. Ncell has collaborated with Airtel in India for the service and is conducting tests with other international operators to expand this service to more markets.

The gist is while Ncell VoLTE gives users HD voice service in Nepal, VoLTE roaming offers the same for users while traveling abroad.

Ncell VoLTE roaming supported operators and countries

Currently, Ncell is testing VoLTE roaming with Jio and Vodafone in India, and AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon in the USA.

Likewise, it’s also coordinating with Softbank and NTT Docomo in Japan, China Mobile and China Unicom in China, and Bell and Telus in Canada. These will help outbound Nepali travelers to stay connected with VoLTE roaming on Ncell SIM when users go abroad in these countries.

Don’t miss: Why 2G still has many users in Nepal?

For inbound roamers who come to Nepal, Ncell is providing VoLTE roaming service for customers of Airtel and Jio from India, and China Mobile from China. Likewise, Ooredoo of Kuwait, Mobily of Saudi Arabia, AT&T of the USA, and Viettel of Vietnam can also enjoy the Ncell VoLTE roaming while in Nepal.

Going forward, Ncell says that it will continue to expand the network of its roaming network to facilitate connectivity to more customers. It says that the service will help connect not just people, but also help businesses wherever they are.

Ncell’s international VoLTE roaming democratizes connectivity

Ncell’s international VoLTE roaming further promotes connectivity for Nepalese. It helps users connect with their families and friends while away with HD voice and high-speed data, using their own mobile number.

When many Nepalese go to the countries like USA, Australia, Singapore, Japan etc where 2G and 3G networks are already phased out, they can’t connect with their close ones for the lack of those very networks. But with VoLTE roaming, native voice calling has become possible. Do read: Which network will phase out first in Nepal, 2G or 3G?

Also, many foreigners visit Nepal every year. Their getting a reliable roaming service due to Ncell’s partnership with operators from their home countries means they can stay connected with their family and friends back home. So, in a way, Ncell is democratizing connectivity with its international VoLTE roaming service.
