Khalti has initiated a “Smart Deposit” service, the first of its kind that’s based on a digital wallet. The company launched this recurring deposit feature in collaboration with Manjushree Finance.

The deposit feature allows Khalti app users to save their money in the digital wallet and also earn interest. Besides, it also brings users a new and credible reason to deposit their money in the wallet app.

Khalti Smart Deposit minimum amount, interest, and savings duration

According to Khalti, you need a minimum amount of Rs 100 for the smart deposit benefit. You can select a saving cycle between a day, weekly, monthly, and 6 months to 60 months for the duration.

The interest rate in this service is based on the RD interest rate published monthly by Manjushree Finance. The Khalti Smart Deposit service is operated according to the guidelines of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB).

If you subscribe, you can keep track of the status of your deposit on the Khalti app. The amount is credited to Manjushree Finance’s account.

“Latest technology like Smart Deposit launched through this collaboration will further expand the use of technology in financial transactions,” says Tej Raj Timilsina, CEO of Manjushree Finance. “All users who are doing their financial transactions through Khalti will be able to easily open an account on Manjushree and conduct their transactions. We believe this will save the time spent on opening an account at a financial institution and will make financial transactions easier.”

Being a technophile, I am particularly fascinated by the evolution of mobile networks in Nepal from legacy networks (2G, 3G) to 4G (with VoLTE, VoWiFi, eSIM) and the prospects of the upcoming 5G, and equally enthralled by the development of internet from the dial-up connection to the 2 Gbps XGS-PON fiber broadband technology and their transformative impact in the country.
