Google is preparing for the launch of the Pixel 9a smartphone, a slightly more affordable offering after the flagship iterations. The ‘a’ series in Pixel phones launch later after the mainstream siblings and the tradition is getting its continuity with this upcoming “midrange” lineup. The phone will come with somewhat modest specs to match its budget cost. Let’s discuss the possible specifications, features, and expected price of the Google Pixel 9a phone in Nepal.

Design and Display

Change is the only constant and it’s suggested that Google Pixel 9a could lose its camera bar which has been a common feature since the Pixel 6 Series. If true, this would be a major shift in design for the phone.

So, the camera module could feature an oval shape on the left side as shared by Android Headlines. Recently, ShrimpApplePro on X shared similar design changes so, the suggestion does carry weight. However, on the front, there is not much for the change, at least so far. There will be a hole punch to house the selfie camera. The phone is also rumored to come with 152.1 x 72.7 x 8.9mm dimensions.

The display is likely to feature OLED technology with a 120 Hz refresh rate. Pixel phones are extremely bright. The Pixel 8a reaches 2000 nits while the Pixel 9 phone clocks in at 2700 nits. So, Pixel 9a may also come somewhere between 2000 nits to 2700 nits for the maximum brightness. It’s coming in Porcelain, Obsidian, Peony, and Iris colorways.

Performance

Google Pixel 9a could be the first Android phone to run Android 15 out of the box. So, Google may promise a seven-year update of OS and security patches. If you didn’t know, Pixel phones provide some of the closest Android experience possible among the Android OEMs. So, if you are an Android purist, Pixel handsets are surely for you.

In terms of the processor, the phone could get its power from the Tensor G4 chipset same as in the Pixel 9. But it could use Exynos Model 5300 instead of the 5400 one. The chipset comes in 1+3+4 architecture and the prime core clocks in at 3.1 GHz.

However, not having the Exynos 5400 modem could hint at the unfortunate miss of the satellite connectivity feature.

Likewise, the phone may come with 8 GB of RAM 128 GB, and 256 GB of internal storage at the base. The Pixel 9 phone starts at 12 GB so, that’s a downer but it’s also important to keep the price competitive. The good thing though is that the chipset could still run Gemini AI features, so, it’s still going to be decently powerful in providing punchy performance.

Battery and Connectivity

The Pixel 9a phone comes with a larger battery according to Android Headlines so it could be larger than the 4,492mAh capacity pack seen on the Pixel 8a. Besides, we shall expect some improvement upon the 18W fast-charging capacity as well. As said above, the phone may not feature an SOS emergency satellite feature due to an older Exynos modem but there would be 5G and 4G LTE connectivity for faster mobile broadband.

Camera

For reference, the Pixel 8a came with a 64 MP + 13 MP dual rear camera and 13 MP front camera. The phone may not emulate the camera specs of the Pixel 9 Series so, we can expect somewhat similar or minor improvement from the Pixel 8a device in the optics.

Google Pixel 9a price in Nepal and Release Date

In Nepal, the Google Pixel 9a phone may get a price of around Rs 79,599 for the 8/128 GB trim. Admittedly, it doesn’t sound like a budget price range but rather the price of premium handsets. However, the phone is cost-friendly when we compare it with the top flagship phones that come with their own distinct specifications.

Regarding its launch date, it’s been suggested that Google might make the device available for pre-order in mid-March of 2025 and an official launch later in the same month. This also means the launch one month early. Typically, Google launched the “a” series of phones in mid-May. So, here, we might witness a cultural shift for the “a” series of phones.

Our Initial Verdict

Google Pixel 9a is a “budget” offering from Google. So, we get toned-down specifications from its mainstream lineups without “a” in the name. Those who won’t buy any device from the original Pixel 9 Series could be tempted to buy the Pixel 9a for its camera performance, stunning new design profile, and competitive price range.
