Design

Samsung Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ models carry a similar design path to their Galaxy S23 predecessors and get an aluminum frame. They didn’t get the Titanium material the S24 Ultra uses. For protection, both the flagship models get IP68 water and dust resistance to give the devices longevity. Both get Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 cover glass. The two lineups miss out on the latest Corning Gorilla Armor for protection that the Galaxy S24 Ultra gets.

Both Samsung Galaxy S24 and S24 are flat in design. They have a centered hole-punch, ultra-sonic under-display fingerprint scanners, and boast extremely thin bezels to make for a stunning screen-filled look. The devices are available in Cobalt Violet and Amber Yellow. Other color options- Jade Green, Sapphire Blue, and Sandstone Orange are being offered exclusively.

For the first time, Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus and also the Ultra models are made with recycled cobalt and rare earth elements. The lineups are designed with recycled steel and Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU).

Display

The biggest difference between the Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus is the size of the display. The Galaxy S24 comes with a 6.2-inch AMOLED panel while the S24 Plus boasts a larger 6.7-inch AMOLED display, a 0.1-inch larger than the S23 Plus. However, they both reach peak brightness of 2600 nits being the brightest display in the world right now. But noticeably, Samsung has limited the standard S24 model to a 1080p screen while the S24 Plus flaunts a 1440p QHD+ screen. Anyway, both the siblings offer a 120 Hz refresh rate which should please the gamers in particular as it helps with smoother screen scrolling.

Exynos 2400

As was rumored, Samsung has employed two different processors for S24 series smartphones. The Ultra gets the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, a dedicated and overclocked model for the premium Samsung Galaxy phones while the subordinate Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus variants use the new-generation Exynos 2400 chipset.

The Exynos 2400 is a deca-core 4nm chipset. It comes with a tri-cluster CPU structure comprising 1 prime core Arm Cortext-X4 at 3.2 GHz, five moderate processors- 2 x Cortext-A720 cores at 2.90 Ghz and 3 x Cortex-A720 cores at 2.6 GHz for balanced operations. The remaining Cortext-A520 cores clock at 2.0 Ghz for efficiency. Samsung claims a 1.7x increase in CPU performance with this SoC compared to the Exynos 2200.

Likewise, the Exynos 2400’s NPU performance has increased 14.7x in AI processing in comparison to Exynos 2200. The chipset houses a fast 3GPP Release 17 5G modem which supports both sub-6 GHz and mmWave (high-band) connectivity. Check out: 5G network in Nepal | Spectrum, Trial and Update

The better SoC and GPU translate to better gaming. Additionally, the S24 and the S24 Plus boast 1.5x and 1.6x bigger vapor chambers respectively with an improved heat dissipation system. That means the devices will maintain their heat even when graphically-heavy games or apps are running.

For graphics, the chipset is paired with a new Samsung Xclipse 940 GPU which consists of the powerful AMD RDNA 3 architecture with hardware ray tracing which produces real-world light movement making way for engaging and immersive visuals. Both these models also support communication features such as WiFi 6E, 5G, 4G LTE, and VoLTE. Both Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus also support eSIM. Only the Galaxy S24 Ultra supports WiFi 7 communication.

Samsung is offering the vanilla Galaxy S24 model with 8 GB of RAM with 256 GB storage option in Nepal. While the S24 plus model comes with 12 GB of RAM for a 256 GB storage option.

Exynos 2400 in Nepal

Samsung says that the Exynos 2400-equipped Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus will be released in India and Europe while the Snapdragon ones will be launched in the US, Canada, China, and Japan. That means the Samsung S24 and S24 Plus smartphones in Nepal will come with the Exynos 2400 chipset.

Camera with AI

Both the Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus feature triple cameras on their luxury rear panel. The camera capabilities are led by the central 50 MP sensor with OIS. The main unit is paired with a 12 MP ultrawide and a 10 MP 3x telephoto lens. Both get 12 MP shooters on the front for selfie photos and videos.

The cameras are equipped with AI capabilities. The ProVisual Engine helps produce clearer, less noisy photos. The Nightography has certainly improved with a new chipset and AI features. Samsung says that the Space Zoom on the Galaxy S24 will render brilliant images in any conditions.

Additionally, the Galaxy AI editing tools enable capabilities such as erase, re-compose, and remaster. Edit suggestion uses Galaxy AI to suggest suitable changes for each photo. The Generative Edit fills parts of an image with background with generative AI. Whenever the generative AI is used, a watermark will appear in the image and metadata.

Further, the new Instant Slow-mo can produce additional frames based on movements to slow down action-packed moments to generate a detailed look. The Super HDR brings life-like previews before the shutter is pressed.

Here are other Samsung Galaxy smartphones with their specs and latest price in Nepal.

Batteries and OneUI 6.1

Samsung has given the standard Galaxy S24 model the smallest size battery at 4,000mAh but the raw number shouldn’t be discouraging. The device’s OS and chipset optimization are also determining factors in how the battery performs. The device should last at least a full day on one full charge. The S24 Plus almost matches the S24 Ultra with a 4,900mAh battery. This year, both models got an increase in battery improvement from a 3,900mAh and 4,700mAh cell on the Galaxy S23 and the S23 Plus in 2022.

Both models support fast charging. The Galaxy S24 Plus supports 45W wired fast charging which charges the battery 65% in 30 minutes. The S24 model reaches 50% charge in 30 minutes as it’s got a 25W fast charger.  Both these models support wireless charging with Qi wireless charging support.

Both Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus come with Android 14-based OneUI 6.1 which should make the user experience fresh with new enhancements and security fixes. The greater good is that Samsung will give the Galaxy S24 series 7 years of OS upgrades, a future-proof investment there!
