Ncell, the private telecom operator of Nepal, has brought a new data pack called Mobile TV pack. Marking the festival period, Ncell has brought the offer which lets their Prepaid and postpaid customers to watch online television at affordable rates. This is the first time that a television pack is launched in Nepalese telecom history. It is also a milestone for further evolution of television through mobile broadband.
With the Ncell mobile TV pack, Ncell customers can only view the television channels through a popular app called “NET TV”. There are four different types for the mobile TV pack, with the viewing time of the TV in the app. They are 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours and 3 hours Ncell TV pack. The cost of Ncell Mobile TV packs are respectively Rs 35, Rs 60, Rs 100 and Rs 150. The cost is inclusive of the applicable taxes.
The data packages are valid for a day (24 hours) and are available for 15 days from Kartik 10, 2073. Ncell subscribers can take packages that renews on its own or another for only one time. To purchase the pack, customers need to either dial *17133# or call 17133 IVR to select the tv packages. Customers can also subscribe the packages by sending SMS to 17133. For one time 1 hour Mobile Tv pack, customers need to send a message 1 hr D to 17133.
Ncell expresses their delight to provide affordable access to Mobile TV service. They believe such service will add values to the customers for their demand of Mobile data services and contents.
Though Nepal Telecom had also launched their TV portal from the very beginning of NT 3G services, it is quite costly as there are no any data packs for the video only. With this kind of TV packs, it is much likely to have a new competition in the video or TV data packs. This sort of service is very good in promoting local contents through the mobile broadband. We see a bigger prospect in the usage of broadband, other than going to internet for every information and entertainment.
