Smart Telecom expands its network, plan for 4G

Smart Telecom, the country’s third largest Telecom operator has expanded its network to more areas. Using latest technology, Smart currently tested its network with advanced features. According to them, the services from those features will reach customers after some months.

Smart Telecom is the third largest telecom operator, after Ntc and Ncell. It has also got third largest customer base in the country. With the new technology, the company plans to at least double their customers base. The company has already provided its service to major cities of the country like Palpa, Syangja, Pokhara, Bhairahwa, Butwal and Kathmandu. Whereas the network expansion is being carried out in Kathmandu, Nepalgunj, Chitwan, Birgunj.

Smart Telecom has started it service since 2008 in remote areas. After getting the unified license in 2013, the company is now extending its GSM service to whole of Nepal. According to latest report, there are around 15 lakh (15,00,000) customers with smart telecom. They sell their service as Smart cell which is the brand name of their GSM service.

Smart cell 4G

When Ntc and Ncell had applied for 4G with technology neutrality, Smart telecom had also applied. Citing the insufficient infrastructure, the regulator NTA has not awarded the License to Smart. Ntc has already provided 4G in Kathmandu and Pokhara whereas Ncell has just got the license. Now it is a matter of time when smart will also operate 4G in major cities. It is also known that the Smart telecom’s GSM equipment can be up-gradable to 4G. As their network infrastructure is expanding, Smart can also join the race for 4G.
