The sub-30k rupees Redmi Note line of devices have always been in the limelight ever since the critically acclaimed Redmi Note 3. The Redmi Note devices have always come with extraordinary value for money and the recent Redmi Note 7 Pro is no exception. So what exactly does the Redmi Note 7 Pro offer with a starting price of Rs 24,999, what exactly does this device offer? Let’s find out in our full review of Redmi Note 7 Pro below.

Design

The Redmi Note 7 Pro has a glass sandwich design with a sturdy aluminum frame going around the device. The back glass has a faded style dual-color design. The device with me had a blue and purple gradient which looked incredible. This glass sandwich device does make the device slippery, more vulnerable and a major fingerprint magnet. Although both front and back glasses have Gorilla Glass 5 protection, I would suggest you use a case with this device at all times. The back of the device is also home to the superfast fingerprint sensor and the dual-camera setup. You can also read the full specs of the Redmi Note 7 Pro device.

Display

The Redmi Note 7 Pro sports a 6.3 inch notched 1080p display with a screen ratio of 19.5:9. The display is an IPS LCD panel with 409ppi pixel density. The colors from this display are punchy and well saturated. All the content you try to enjoy on the device will be well displayed. The brightness of the device is phenomenal. Even under direct sunlight, I had no issues seeing what was being displayed.

Being a 2019 device, it has a notch too. It is a U shaped notch and is not invasive. You will get used to it quickly, but it may bother some of you when you are playing full-screen games on the device. MIUI also offers a setting to completely hide the notch, but sporting an LCD display, the notch is still quite visible.

Performance

The Redmi Note 7 Pro runs on the SnapDragon 675 processor along with an Adreno 612 GPU. The performance of the device is phenomenal! Playing games and performing other intense tasks on this device was no issue. PubG Mobile automatically set itself on high settings and it runs smoothly with no noticeable lag. Even after long hours of gaming and another intense task, the performance was consistent and the device did not get much hot. The device runs on Android Pie with MIUI 10 which offers a lot of great software and customization options. Another thing you have to appreciate Xiaomi for is the animations in MIUI. These animations feel natural and add to the overall experience of using the device.

Camera

The device has a dual 48 MP+5 MP camera setup at the back. With the second sensor is just a depth-sensing a lens with no other purposes than the portrait mode. The front-facing single 13 MP camera also produces next level pictures. The front-facing camera does not have a dedicated flash and uses the screen to shine a light on your face.

Redmi Note 7 Pro camera review

The rear cameras produce good quality photos outdoors with plenty of details. What I loved about this camera is the dynamic range. The foreground and background in all your photos will be evenly lit with plenty of details. The device also performs exceptionally well in low light conditions with little to no grain. The videos are also well stabilized with a gyroscope based EIS. The Redmi Note 7 Pro can shoot slo-mo videos at 120fps also. Also, the device supports 4k video recording at 30 fps. The AI feature on the device detects what you’re trying to take a picture of and adjusts the settings accordingly.

Battery and Speaker

The 4000 mAh battery is what every phone in a gift from God. The huge battery does not add much bulk. I found that the battery life was much better on this device than on the Note 7/ The device also supports 18W QuickCharge 4 technology. The device never died on me during a day and sometimes even lasted 2 full days. During my daily heavy usage, the device consistently gave me around 5 hours of screen on time.

As I’ve previously mentioned several times, I am not a huge fan of speakers placed at the bottom of the device. Also, I am not a big fan of the speaker. The speaker was not as loud as I would have liked and also lacked bass. I also do not prefer the 3.5mm headphone jack is placed on the top.

Call and connectivity

The call quality on the device is pretty much what you’d expect from a smartphone these days. The earpiece which is neatly tucked in above the notch is loud and clear. The device has a hybrid SIM tray. The data speeds on NTC 4G network were satisfactory.

Extra features

Like most devices in the market, the Redmi Note 7 Pro has a fingerprint sensor which is conveniently placed under the rear cameras. The sensor is super-fast and accurate. It takes less than a second to unlock the phone. The fingerprint sensor can also be used to lock apps and to take pictures. The device also has face unlock features. The face unlock performs well even under low light situations. The IR blaster on the device works as expected. There is an included app on the device which allows you to control your electronics using the IR blaster.

Verdict

The device is currently priced starting at Rs. 25 thousand making it one of the best devices you can get in Nepal if you are looking to get a value for money device. The device has also been priced very well in Nepal. If you look for little higher end specs phone that also from Xiaomi, then we suggest you go for Redmi K20.
