iPhone 15 Pro Will Come Without a Physical SIM Card Slot

It seems Apple is ditching the SIM card slot on iPhone 15 Pro. The said model is still two years away but the rumors are already circulating that Apple could ditch physical SIM card slots entirely beginning with the iPhone 15 Pro model in 2023.

Apple has adopted eSIM technology since its iPhone XS models and comes with both physical and eSIM cards. With iPhone 15 Pro model, the handsets could entirely launch with virtual SIM cards.

The rumors surfaced after a Brazilian outlet Blog do iPhone said the ‘Pro’ models won’t include physical SIM card slots. This implies that Apple is intending to solely depend on eSIM cards for telecom services for all of its future lineups.

The source also claims that the Pro model iPhones will introduce a dual eSIM function. This means the phone users will have two lines concurrently.

However, there is no certainty whether the non-Pro variants will support eSIM or continue using the dual SIM setup comprising both physical/eSIM cards.

Apple’s eSIM Move “Hardly a Surprise”

GSM Arena says the news of the iPhone 15 coming without a SIM card slot is “hardly a surprise” as Apple has announced its plan for a “portless iPhone”. The popular phone information site says the move could be Apple’s “first step in that direction.”

But Apple’s total eSIM integration could face a stumbling block as the technology is not available in many countries. This could also mean that the iPhone launch two versions of its smartphones – with and without physical SIM card slots depending on the availability.

However, the iPhone 15 Pro model is still years away and the news could be seen with some doubt. GSM Arena says we must wait till a more reliable industry source backs it up with more substance to it.

eSIM technology is the future in telecommunications and more telco carriers will be launching it soon. Apple’s move could even expedite the technology in many countries in the future. Which is your preference between the two types of SIM card technologies? Do leave your opinion below in the comments.
