Mobile tower

Mobile service has begun for the first time in Puthauttarganga Rural Municipality-2, Pelma, Rukum. State-backed operator Nepal Telecom (NTC) launched the service after establishing a tower in Pelma Ward no. 2.

With the mobile service coming to the area, Pelma Ward no. 2 and the nearby areas are benefited from phone service. Having the communication service in the village has delighted the locals as Gorkhaptra reported.

Ntc has started its mobile service in Pelma Rukum in a way that brings connection to the area of three wards. The telco has completed setting up the base station.

Now, the people of the remote region are able to make calls in their own areas. It has alleviated them from having to climb high hills for network reception.

In recent years, Ntc has been very active in expanding its communication services in remote regions. Especially in high hills, it has rapidly extended its 4G and telephony services. The company has stated that it is giving more priority to service expansion than generating higher revenues. Connecting Pelma with the communication service is its latest move in the same direction.

Ntc plans to achieve a blanket 4G coverage in the next few months. It is essential to start and expand 5G services to more areas. Reportedly, it is initially initiating the fifth-generation cellular network in NSA architecture which basically means switching on the network on top of 4G LTE infrastructure.

Mobile services remain highly crucial for communication and there are still areas without its availability. Let’s hope the operators and ISPs continue expanding their service in quantity and quality, which is key for the creation of Digital Nepal. Ntc has around 2 crore 10 lakh voice telephony subscribers and over 1 crore, 91 lakh users on its 4G network.

An experienced tech writer covering news mostly on telecommunication, internet, latest tech & trends, and Gadgets. Being a technophile, I am particularly fascinated by the evolution of mobile networks in Nepal from legacy networks (2G, 3G) to 4G (with VoLTE, VoWiFi, eSIM) and the prospects of the upcoming 5G, and equally enthralled by the development of internet from the dial-up connection to the 2 Gbps XGS-PON fiber broadband technology and their transformative impact in the country.
