Nepal Telecom (NTC) says that its BTS (base station) aka cell tower in Sarkegad, Humla district has been damaged causing network outages. Via an official statement, the company has expressed its disappointment over the disruption of its telecom services after some individuals and groups’ activities damaged its mobile service infrastructures in the district. The company has already started service restoration work to bring back its network live.

Due to the damage to the cell tower, the company’s services have been affected in Sarkegad, Humla for 5 days. It’s not the first time that telecom towers have been targeted in violent attacks. In fact, both Ntc and Ncell have witnessed network outages and losses from such attacks in the past too. Just read this for one example: More than 24 ncell towers torched in 2 days. This time, Ntc has had to endure this again from some individuals/groups.

Ntc says service restoration could take days after its tower in Sarkegad, Humla was damaged

According to the company, its micro BTS in Sarkegad Rural Municipality—05 incurred damages. The company’s presser said that the tower’s solar panel, VSAT, and earthing cable sustained damages. The incident took place on Poush 04, 2081. The company says that restoring the equipment and service will take time due to geographical difficulties. Likewise, it has extended an apology for the inconvenience caused to the customers.

As the company resorts to resorting to the services, it has urged to refrain from such behaviors. “Nepal Telecom requests everyone to refrain from activities that damage public property and violate the right to enjoy uninterrupted communication services,” the company said in a statement.

Communication is a right to all the citizens and they pay for it. But losing out on network coverage due to such activities from some individuals is disappointing at the least. Let’s hope that such illegal and unlawful acts don’t repeat.
