State-run telecom company Nepal Telecom (NTC) has launched 4G service in Bhurbhure, Marma Rural Municipality of Darchula district. The coverage extends signals to Api Mountain area, benefiting the locals as well as the tourists.

The expansion furthers Ntc 4G coverage to the remote region in Western Nepal. Most importantly, Api Mountain is one of the major tourist destinations in Nepal, with hundreds of thousands of visitors reaching the region for adventures. The availability of Ntc 4G allows them to connect with their family and friends. That is not all, users can use Ntc VoLTE to make HD voice calls.

Ntc has installed a new cell tower in Bhurbhure, Marma Rural Municipality, which has enabled 4G service in the area. According to Ntc, the tower provides 4G coverage to Api Mountain and nearby areas. Communication Ministry says that the connectivity will not just benefit the users for voice and browsing data, but also help authorities in rescue operations.

The expansion of 4G in Marma further improves Ntc’s footprint in the rural landscape of the country. Being a national company, it has been expanding modern services to several rural areas in recent years. The company has set a target of reaching all local levels in 2082/83. Recently, Ntc 4G became available in Tilicho Base Camp, while aggressive expansion is ongoing in Karnali and Gandaki too.

The 4G network provides reliable voice and faster data rate, significantly transforming users’ capacity with their smartphones. It unlocks video calling, VoLTE, faster browsing, and more.

Being a technophile, I am particularly fascinated by the evolution of mobile networks in Nepal from legacy networks (2G, 3G) to 4G (with VoLTE, VoWiFi, eSIM) and the prospects of the upcoming 5G, and equally enthralled by the development of internet from the dial-up connection to the 2 Gbps XGS-PON fiber broadband technology and their transformative impact in the country.
