Nepal’s Prime Minister, Mrs. Sushila Karki, has officially opened her Facebook, Instagram, and X accounts to be used as the PM’s social media handles. Generally, the new PM uses the same social media accounts as the predecessors. But Mrs. Karki started new accounts. We will find out why and also give links to those official accounts in this post. PM Sushila Karki uses separate Facebook, Instagram, and X accounts
Nepal’s first female PM, Sushila Karki, had to open her new social media accounts. Customarily, a preceding PM hands over the usernames and passwords to the successor. Because these accounts are official and are expected to be continuously used by other PMs in the future, however, it was a different case this time.
The press release issued by Rabilal Panth, Joint Secretary and Spokesperson at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, states that the current Prime Minister, Mrs. Sushila Karki, has a social media account with a different username than those used by previous prime ministers.
For example, for X account handles,
- Former Nepali PMs used @PM_Nepal_.
- Sushila Karki has @pmsushilakarki.
If you don’t know, PM Mrs. Karki has also has hotline number for public services.
Why though?
Because PM Mrs. Sushila Karki expressed a desire to use separate social media accounts. Sources have shared that due to Mrs. Karki’s desire to use different Facebook, Insta, and X accounts, the current interim government acted accordingly.
Prime Minister Sushila Karki’s Chief Advisor, Ajaya Bhadra Khanal, also said that the old account (used by former PM KP Oli) still displays activities from him, and the new administration decided to start using new accounts.
But it has come to light that former PM Oli has only shared X account details so far. This leaves Facebook and Instagram account usernames and passwords in his possession. It’s been said that the current administration will use both X accounts, but only a few highly important information will be retweeted through @PM_nepal_.
