Xiaomi Leica partnership before Xiaomi 17 global launch

Xiaomi and Leica have announced a new partnership, solidifying their collaboration further ahead of the global launch of the Xiaomi 17 series. The development marks upgraded cooperation between the two for their upcoming smartphone lineups, for the return to the soul of Essential Leica Imagery.

Xiaomi and Leica’s partnership further solidifies

The joint letter hints at a next-generation evolution in the Xiaomi-Leica partnership. We are looking at the possibility of the Leica Edition Xiaomi 17 Ultra. Rather than just being an R&D companionship, the letter hints at an evolution into a strategic co-creation. The letter was signed by Matthias Harsh, CEO of Leica Camera AG, and William Lu, Partner & President of Xiaomi Corporation.

The letter shows that the partnership seeks to “create a pinnacle mobile imaging flagship that no one has ever seen before.”

From the document, we can infer that a deeper level work is ongoing to deliver enhanced photography in the upcoming Xiaomi phones powered by Leica optics. They will be cameras that perfectly capture light, shadow, and the decisive moment. Leica says that it’s not about recording a moment, but evoking emotions, telling stories, and preserving the poetic memories of life.

The letter further shares that the goal seemed impossible. However, engineers from both sides have “managed to incorporate the professional optics, design aesthetic, and interface concepts of Leica cameras” into the new phones.

Xiaomi 17 Ultra to feature breakthrough Leica optics system!

It’s likely that Xiaomi 17 Ultra will feature Leica APO telephoto lenses and a 1-inch main sensor when it launches on February 28. The day will also see the launch of Xiaomi 17. The camera system on the Ultra will bring the best-in-class photography as on flagship phones. This should include advanced imaging, color balance, night photography, OIS, etc.

Both Xiaomi and Leica share that the optics breakthrough they have achieved will push the boundaries of mobile imaging while honoring Lei’s legacy of precision and artistry.
