State-backed telecom giant Nepal Telecom (NTC) has started mobile services in the Arunkhola-Dumkibas jungle area. The company brought connectivity to help travelers with cellular services along the highway in Nawalpur.

Niroj Ghimire, chief of Nepal Telecom Kawasoti branch, informed that a telecom tower has been constructed in the forest area between Arunkhola-Dumkibas in Nawalpur along the East-West Highway. He said that the network problem had been resolved after the tower was installed in the area. He also shared that 2G and 4G services are easily available there after the tower came into operation.

The District Disaster Management Committee had earlier suggested expanding the network in the highway area after it was observed that there was a problem of delay in rescue operations due to lack of communication due to the lack of mobile network on the main highway.

Nepal Telecom is extending 4G in Arunkhola and other areas

Chief Ghimire said that since there are network problems in the forest areas along the highways of Chormara-Arunkhola and Danda-Arunkhola sections of Nawalpur, those places have also been given priority for tower installation.

He informed that Nepal Telecom has also given priority to tower construction targeting the Kaligandaki Corridor and the hilly areas of the district. Under this initiative, the construction of the tower in Bojhapokhari in Bulingtar has been completed, and preparations are underway to start operation in a few days. Similarly, he said that a contract agreement has been reached for the construction of the tower in Thambesi in Bulingtar itself, and work has begun.

Office Chief Ghimire said that the work of connecting electricity has been taken forward to ensure regular and smooth service as the network faces problems due to dependence on solar systems during winter or when there is no sunlight.

As of now, Ntc’s 4G coverage has reached over 98% of local areas and plans to launch 5G in Nepal by the end of 2083. Ntc’s 3G is shutting down, and priority is on extending 4G across the country before 5G rollout.

Being a technophile, I am particularly fascinated by the evolution of mobile networks in Nepal from legacy networks (2G, 3G) to 4G (with VoLTE, VoWiFi, eSIM) and the prospects of the upcoming 5G, and equally enthralled by the development of internet from the dial-up connection to the 2 Gbps XGS-PON fiber broadband technology and their transformative impact in the country.
