When it comes to national contributions, the private sector telco Ncell is always there. Since its inception, the company has consistently remained among the major taxpayers in Nepal’s ICT industry. The company paid a total of Rs 17,24,46,23,881 to the government during FY 2082/83 in various fees.

Ncell posted Rs 17.24 billion in taxes in FY 2082/83

Ncell says that a large portion of its payment came from telecommunications-related fees. Ncell paid Rs 3.29 billion as its license installment fee to NTA. It also paid Rs 270,000 for the renewal of its Internet Service Provider (ISP) license and Rs. 1.01 billion in customs duties.

Additionally, Ncell paid a total of Rs 1.29 billion in royalty and Rs 1.96 billion in frequency fees. Similarly, the company paid Rs 2.63 billion in value-added tax (VAT) collected on sales and Rs 988.5 million in tax deducted at source (TDS).

Ncell among Nepal’s major taxpayers

Ncell remained among Nepal’s largest taxpayers. In Baisakh 2082, the Government of Nepal recognized Ncell as the highest income-tax-paying taxpayer in the country’s ICT sector based on its tax contribution.

The company said that its total payments to the government since its establishment have reached nearly Rs 375 billion through various taxes, fees, and other government charges. In Ncell’s 21 years in Nepal, Ncell has invested over Rs 130 billion in capital expenditure.

Ncell contributes to government revenue through taxes, license and spectrum fees, royalties, customs duties, and other payments associated with its operations.

Ncell has contributed more than Rs 2 billion in CSR spending

Besides taxes and fees, Ncell has also been carrying out social initiatives through the Ncell Foundation. The company says that it has spent more than Rs 2 billion on corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives to date. Its CSR activities have covered various areas of community support and social development, including areas such as education, community health, environment, etc.

The latest payment figures of Rs 17.24 billion in taxes in FY 2082/83 highlight the significant contribution of the telecommunications sector to government revenue, with operators such as Ncell making payments through multiple tax and regulatory channels in addition to their direct business activities.
