Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has told internet service providers (ISPs in Nepal) to first get tariff approval before providing service to their customers. The authority related to the ISPs of the prevalent Telecommunications Act provision in the matter, after customer complaints grew over arbitrary pricing.

Releasing a notice, NTA said that ISPs need to comply with the Service Tariff provision in the Telecommunications Act 2053. “There is a legal provision that the service fees and tariff rates charged by Internet (including email) service providers to customers must have approval of the authority in accordance with Section 42 of the Telecommunications Act, 2053 B,S and the terms of the license,” the authority declared.

According to such a provision, the authority has stated that the internet service provider must mandatorily approve the service fee and tariff rate, and also provide information on the date of approval.
