For the first time, Nepal Telecom has completely migrated a traditional PSTN exchange in Province 5 to FTTH technology. The landline phone, based on old copper technology is now replaced with Fiber-based FTTH. The migration for Nepal Telecom’s telephone exchange at Bardaghat completed on Ashad 24, 2077.

At first, Ntc established a 150 line Bardaghat exchange in Chaira, 2056 with C-DoT technology. Later the company expanded the exchange with JRack in the year 2060, to a capacity of 1000 lines.

After a series of expansions, NT finally upgraded the exchange to 3000 lines with optical-based OLT technology and initiated providing FTTH service. FTTH is a fiber-based next general access technology that can provide triple-play services with Voice, internet, and IPTV.  If there was no COVID-19 pandemic, Nepal Telecom’s IPTV service would have been launched by now.

Nepal Telecom FTTH migration Bardhaghat

Maintaining Social distance, Nepal Telecom officials attended a program to mark the migration of the PSTN technology to FTTH. The Mayor of the Bardaghat municipality Mr. Dhiraj Sharma acknowledged Nepal Telecom’s effort in providing the high-speed fiber-based internet to the City areas. He also requested NT to bring such technology to villages.

Provincial Director Mr. Surya Narayan Malakar expressed NT’s commitment to provide quality services to people and gradually expand such advanced technologies to more areas.

As per NT, the total number of FTTH lines distributed to date has crossed 70,000. Though the demand for this service is quite high, NT has not been able to deliver the request from people.

Based on the feasibility, Nepal Telecom has already migrated the old telephony to the fiber phased telephony in some exchanges of Kathmandu, Pokhara, and more.

Here is how you can complain about the Ntc FTTH service.
