Under-Display Camera Smartphone Technology

Almost every company has been working hard to bring the Under-display camera in the market. Companies like Vivo, Oppo, and OnePlus have already made prototypes public. But these prototypes weren’t that good because we could see camera patches on the display. This news came out as a surprise but the companies leading to achieve this technology are Xiaomi and ZTE. Xiaomi is expecting to mass-produce these under-display camera smartphones as soon as next year.  ZTE is also going faster for this front camera technology under the screen. They are planning to launch their new phone with an Under-screen camera on September 1, 2020. They call the phone,  ZTE Axon 20 5G. It will be the world’s first Under-display camera smartphone.

Xiaomi 3rd Generation Under-Display Camera Smartphone Technology

On August 28, 2020, Xiaomi announced that it will start mass production of smartphones equipped with 3rd Generation Under-Display Camera Next year. These phones will be all high-end flagship phones. Xiaomi has already implanted this 3rd Generation Under-Display Camera technology in its Mi 10 Ultra phone. However, these phones are of a limited number and are only made to showcase their tech through YouTubers.

But the 3rd Generation Under-Display camera technology isn’t still perfect in Custom Mi 10 Ultra. If we all look carefully we can see a bit of traces where the punch-hole is placed in normal Mi 10 Ultra. Yeah, it’s in the top left corner of the phone. While looking normally or casually no traces are seen. This was made clear by Ice Universe which they also tweeted about.

If you are wondering about the specification of the Custom Mi 10 Ultra than it’s all the same as the normal Mi 10 Ultra expect the front camera. Click here if you want to know about all the detailed specs, features, and price of the Mi 10 Ultra. As per our speculation, Mi 11 or Mi Mix 5 will be the first Under-Display camera smartphones from Xiaomi. Looking at the history of the Company it will likely be Mi Mix 5 because all the new technologies are showcased first in Mi Mix series smartphones.

How the 3rd Generation Under-Display Camera Technology works

Now let’s talk about how the 3rd Generation Under-Display Camera Technology works. The company has worked on a self-developed pixel arrangement. Along with it they also have worked on optimization of the camera algorithm. The whole thing is about sub-pixels.

The new self-developed pixel arrangement allows the display to pass light through the gap area of sub-pixels. This allows every single pixel to retain a complete RGB sub-pixel. Also, this doesn’t compromise on pixel density. The company has even doubled the number of Horizontal and vertical pixels.

The display in these phones also adopts a special circuit design. This helps in hiding more components under the RGB sub-pixels. As a result, increasing the light transmittance of the under-screen camera area. Combining it with the new self-developed optimization algorithm, it gives a whole new camera experience.

ZTE Axon 20 5G

ZTE Axon A20 5G under-display camera smartphone

The announcement from ZTE came as a surprise. The company has declared that they will be launching World’s first Under-display camera smartphone on September 1, 2020. It will surely be an event behind closed doors with no audience. It’s all because of the current worldwide pandemic situation.

The specification and the details haven’t been revealed yet. Even the leaks are very few. The only thing that is sure to have is an under-display camera and support to 5G Network. It is speculated that the phone will come in 4 color finishes.

According to Xda-developers, the phone passed through TENAA showing off its design and specifications. However, it’s still not yet official. Let’s talk about the TENAA listing confirmations specification. First in the list is a 6.92-inch OLED display with 246×1080 resolution. It will also house an in-display fingerprint sensor.

4120mAh is also on the list. 2.4GHz Clock Speed CPU and 6GB, 8GB, 12GB RAM variant is there. Storage variant of 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB is listed. Last but not least, the under-display camera is listed to be of 32MP. The Quad-rear camera is going to pack a 64MP + 8MP + 2MP + 2MP setup. All these specs are listed via TENAA and are not official till now.

Where is good, there is bad. All the specs are good but there is one bad news. There’s no 3.5mm tradition headphone jack. We all hope the event goes as planned by ZTE. People will be excited to get their hands-on into these awesome devices after it launches.

Why Under-Display Camera Smartphone?

The Under-Display Camera was only a concept but it is becoming a reality now. The significance of this technology is outrageous. It has not just pushed tech companies but also the technology itself. This will also satisfy the needs of consumers. No viewing or gaming disturbance in the display was the consumer’s need, which has been fulfilled now. Achieving this technology has also opened doors to new advancement ideas. Who know’s what we will see tomorrow implemented in a smartphone. Hologram maybe!!!
