Samsung has announced the monstrous 200MP camera sensor for smartphones. This is so far the highest resolution camera sensor ever developed for a phone. Called ISOCELL HP1, the sensor ultra high megapixel camera will store an image at 16,384 × 12,288 on its highest resolution.
The ISOCELL HP1 sensor carries 0.64μm pixels and can bin 16 of them at once. This will be equivalent to a 12.5-megapixel sensor with 2.56μm pixels. The quality of an image is not determined so much by the resolution as it is by the lights entering the sensors. For this, Samsung has used its own technology for bright and detailed images.

To bring in more light into the pixels, Samsung has equipped its pixel binning technology what it calls “ChameleonCell.” The innovation allows the sensor bin at 2×2 or 4×4, which will be based on the amount of available light. The technology improves the lighting aspect of the sensor by merging several pixels into a bigger pixel in low-light conditions.
Besides, the record-setting 200MP sensor, the South Korean company also introduced another sensor called the ISOCELL GN5. This is a 50MP sensor with 1.0μm pixels. The company says it’s the first of its kind to integrate its Dual Pixel Pro technology.

Samsung has not disclosed much information regarding when the two sensors will hit mass production. However, the company said it has sent the samples to smartphone OEMs for evaluation.
