Employee unions at Nepal Telecom (Ntc) have demanded strict action on those responsible for the recent network issue. Unions at the company, NTEAN, NTCWU, NTEU, and NEON jointly said in a press release that a serious attraction was drawn to the recent network failure and questioned the trend of lack of action on those responsible.

Ntc suffered a short network issue on Magh 3, 2079 at around 12:00 pm. The network, however, came to full restoration after 15 minutes.

“It is well known that the active unions in Nepal Telecom have been repeatedly drawing the attention of the company management on issues such as institutional reform, quality and efficient service delivery, institutional governance for the benefit of the customers,” the unions said, “In this context, on 03 Magh, 2079 at around 12:00 PM, GSM MOBILE and PSTN landline services were completely blocked for some time, and our serious attention has been drawn to the suffering of the customers and the company both.”

The unions said that disruption in the company’s services is not common during crucial moments. At the time of the said network issue, a swearing-in ceremony was ongoing where new ministers were appointed at respective ministries. Rekha Sharma, the new MoCIT minister also took office around the same moment on a fateful day at the telco.

Services not being working regularly, and reliably has raised questions on the management’s working style and efficiency, unions complained. However, the company forms committees to investigate and avoid future network disturbances. But the complacency to implement suggestions from the reports and actions on responsible lack at the company. It shows that the responsible parties at the company lack of sense of responsibility and impunity, the unions asserted.

Likewise, the unions have called for strict actions and the formation of an expert team to investigate the network issue. It has the company to investigate which system, and reasons caused the network disturbance, and how much loss it bore. It also asked under whose responsibility it falls.
