Nepal Telecom (NTC) has launched a mobile service in Tinka in the North-West border area. The company established its reliable network in the farthest settlement in the remote mountaneous region on Ashoj 16, 2080.

With the launch of the Ntc network in the region, the locals now have access to convenient mobile services on their devices.

Tinkar did have VSAT fixed-phone service from Ntc before. But now, mobile connectivity is available for the locals who can call on its 2G network.

Ntc started 2G mobile service via very small aperture terminal (VSAT) technology in Tinkar. The area lies in Byas Rural Municipality ward no. 1 in the Northwest border area with China in the Darchula district. The government-backed company brought telecom equipment from Attaraiya of Kailali, and Chhangru of Darchula. The network availability enables reliable voice and mobile internet service on 2G.

Tinkar lies at an elevation of 3700 meters. The remote region shares a border with India and China which lies 12 kilometers from Chhangru and 80 kilometers from headquarters Khalanga. An 8-kilometer walk from the area takes to pillar no. 1 at the border with China.

Ntc has established services in areas that return less financial gain and costs comparatively higher in setting up infrastructure. The company has given priority to expanding telecom services over profit.

An experienced tech writer covering news mostly on telecommunication, internet, latest tech & trends, and Gadgets. Being a technophile, I am particularly fascinated by the evolution of mobile networks in Nepal from legacy networks (2G, 3G) to 4G (with VoLTE, VoWiFi, eSIM) and the prospects of the upcoming 5G, and equally enthralled by the development of internet from the dial-up connection to the 2 Gbps XGS-PON fiber broadband technology and their transformative impact in the country.
