Government-backed telecom company Nepal Telecom (NTC) has started a 3G network and telephone service in Sangta village. The launch of the communication services allows the locals and visitors to access mobile data and call their family and friends via telephone.
To start the service, Ntc used a microwave radio link repeater on the tower installed on Ghiuladada lying in Varagung Muktichhetra-02. The very local level had been actively coordinating with Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) and NTC for the launch of the telecom service in the area.
The government of Nepal had only discovered Sangta village in 2022. It’s an underserved region lying near the Mustang-Dolpa border. It is 40 kilometers away from Jomsom, a rather affluent city in the Mustang district. It’s also thinly populated, with only 13 households living permanently. But despite all the odds, NT established the reliable communication services to promote digital inclusion.

Launch of Ntc 3G excites locals in Sangta village
The locals have been left delighted after the launch of 3G and telephone services by Nepal Telecom (NTC). They feel that the access to mobile services will make their life easier than in the past.
NTC office chief of Jomsom, Hum Bahadur Bhujel, said that the company launched services in Sangta village, aiming to expand quality services to the people as per the government’s goal.
He shared that a 48-volt electricity capacity mobile network service has come into operation by connecting solar energy panels to start mobile (BTS) service in Sangta, a border village on the Mustang-Dolpa road.
Tshiring Palsang Gurung, a local from the Sangta village, reflected on life before 3G in the area. He said that before any telecom service was available, locals had to walk three hours to reach an area with a mobile signal.
However, now, Ntc 3G has saved their time and expenses. He further adds that mobile phones can be used to get information in times of disaster and for commercial purposes as well.
Likewise, another local Jhapyang Gurung says that after the launch of mobile service in the village, it has become easier to read news, make calls, and receive any information.
NT in right direction to achieve blanket mobile broadband coverage
As a “government” company, NT gives priority to expanding its communication services across the country, including remote and rural regions.
Launching mobile services in remote regions poses logistical and revenue challenges. However, the company is committed to ensuring that the people in such regions get high-quality and modern services. The launch of Ntc 3G in Sangta village is a prime example of that.
But we can expect the company to upgrade the network to 4G in the area in the near future. As it stands, over 98% of local levels now have Ntc 4G. So, it will continue to expand its modern services to more areas in the coming days.
Launch of 3G service in Sangta village is a blessing in disguise for the “nomadic” people in Sangta village. But it’s also very beneficial to the local economy and the tourists who could flock to the area for mystic exploration.
