BGMI Ban in India

Popular Battle Royale game, BGMI has been pulled down from Google Playstore and App Store in India. The Indian iteration of PUBG mobile, Battle Grounds Mobile India is not available to download from both platforms. The move is pointed toward banning the game from the country by the Indian government. Earlier, the government banned Freefire too. Let’s know more about the BGMI ban in India in this article.

PUBG and BGMI Background in India

Let’s talk about PUBG mobile first. The game was immensely popular in India and esports rose in fame. Dozens of crimes also occur due to extensive addiction to the game such as theft, murder, fraud, etc in India. The Indian government was speculating on all of these. When the matter came to data protection, it took a serious step and banned PUBG from India in 2020, citing PUBG servers sending data to China.

Losing a huge market, PUBG’s parent company Krafton Inc. of Korea decided to bring back the game to India. After months of development and making a pledge to secure the player’s data, India allowed BGMI to launch on July 2, 2021. The data servers were set in the country for security.

Is BGMI banned in India?

Now, the silent takedown of BGMI from Playstore and Appstore has left question marks among the fans and players. Those having it already installed are still able to play. Following the same move, Freefire was also first taken down before it got banned. It is likely to be sure that BGMI is also on the list of banning by India.

Google has responded on this topic by saying that the move was directed by the government’s receipt of the order. On the other hand, Krafton officials are planning to meet the government officials to sort out the issues. Also, several ministers in India are asking the government to ban the game. The latest incident was about a 16-year-old killing his mother after an argument about BGMI.

There were also many instances where children stole money from their parent’s credit cards to purchase in-game cash and rewards. Despite that, the game has also made positive impacts by developing an esports environment. Many YouTubers and streamers are earning good money by streaming the game.

What about in Nepal?

PUBG Mobile has still been the most popular Battle Royale title in Nepal. The game has also revolutionized the esports scenario in Nepal. Nepalese teams have also done well in regional tournaments. Hence, Kathmandu Metropolitan City has allocated a budget for esports development. The game streamers are active in doing charity streams too in Nepal.

Yet, talks and discussions about the game have happened in Nepal’s parliament in the past. There were also speculations about PUBG getting banned in Nepal. Some parliament members rooted for PUBG and Freefire ban in Nepal too, citing its negative influence on children. Both of the games haven’t got banned yet. And currently, PUBG is organizing PUBG Mobile Nepal Series (PMNS) with a prize pool of Rs.3,20,000 for the winning team.

So, will it be banned in India? It is more likely to happen so, regarding the move of the Indian government. It will be a huge blow to millions of players and Krafton if it happens again. And, the players won’t have more options except playing Call of Duty Mobile (CODM). CODM is also a good game with the game carrying the franchise legacy. Moreover, COD Warzone Mobile is also arriving soon.
