inDrive Nepal

inDrive, a prominent ride-sharing platform has launched a calling feature on its app to make its service even more efficient. The feature lets customers and drivers contact each other by phone call via the internet for free and makes ride-hailing more convenient.

The in-app calling feature on the inDrive app is OTT-based so it’s free of any cellular charges (while data charges may incur if you are on mobile data). This makes it convenient for both customers and drivers to confirm a ride with direct contact.

inDrive is a leader among ride-hailing apps and continues to bring innovative services to maintain its higher market proposition. The in-app call feature adds another brilliant convenience to customers who use the app for their mobility. If you were unaware, inDrive is now official in Nepal since its registration back in May 2024. So, it’s now emphasizing continuous innovation and improvement of its customer service.

How does inDrive in-app calling work?

The calling feature on inDrive works after a ride has been booked/accepted. After this, either the customer or the driver can make a call to learn of the other’s location and finalize other details. As you can see in the screenshot below, the app gives an option to make regular and free calls. The regular call uses carrier networks which incur applicable tariffs. The free call uses the internet and has no effect on mobile balance unless you are on mobile data. Another good aspect of this feature is that the caller’s phone number is kept hidden so nobody can see the number. It’s a good security consideration from the company’s side.

Do note that if the app on your phone doesn’t already have the call feature, then you need to update it to its latest version on your app store. The feature is available on both Android and iOS apps’ latest version.

Advantages of call feature on in-Drive

  • Convenience: Calling lets both a passenger and a driver can contact each other. This makes it easier to finalize a ride for both parties. It also doesn’t affect mobile balance as it’s an internet-based service. It saves time too. So, it’s got merit.
  • Free of cost: The calling on the inDrive app is free. That is because the OTT-based call is integrated into the app. All you need internet to call not the cellular network. So, whether you have data or WiFi, if the internet is active, you can make the call. So, customers won’t need to fret about the balance deduction while booking their ride.
  • User satisfaction: The ability to make calls while booking a ride is a relief. It directly connects a passenger with an inDrive driver. It’s easy, convenient, and also very satisfying. It’s intuitive too. So, it makes the whole process creative and more satisfying.
  • An extra reason to use it: inDrive is already popular for allowing customers the freedom to quote their ride fare. But the ability to make a call for hailing a ride serves as another reason to use the already widely popular platform. Features that elevate customer service have direct relationship with its mass appeal and growth. The OTT-based call gives another compelling reason to use inDrive for users.

Various ride-sharing apps are there in Nepal and while some are prominent others are startups. inDrive stands as an eminent market player and consistently adds new features to make the service more interesting and customer centric. The calling service is another welcome inclusion on the app for both the customers and drivers for their service transactions.

Being a technophile, I am particularly fascinated by the evolution of mobile networks in Nepal from legacy networks (2G, 3G) to 4G (with VoLTE, VoWiFi, eSIM) and the prospects of the upcoming 5G, and equally enthralled by the development of internet from the dial-up connection to the 2 Gbps XGS-PON fiber broadband technology and their transformative impact in the country.
