Nepal Telecom (NTC) is in the process of installing a new billing system. The company has issued an international bid from interested firms to apply for the installation of “convergent real-time billing (CRTB) system and customer support (CS) system tender.

The new billing system will reportedly cost the company a whopping Rs 5 billion. The government-backed company expects the new convergent billing system to make its services more straightforward and customer-friendly. Both CRTB and CS will be based on virtualized platform. Therefore, the new billing system marks another solid effort from the company in its billing software.

Nepal Telecom had already made an effort for the convergent real-time billing system in late 2080. However, the move couldn’t go ahead due to a writ filed on Jestha 20, 2081. It was argued that the bid was not technology-friendly, expensive, and would cause a huge financial burden on the company.

But the Supreme Court has given its full-texts verdict on the matter on Bhadra 25, 2081 clearing the way for the company to start the process. But it has canceled the earlier procurement process and instead announced a new tender.

What is a “convergent real-time billing system”?

Convergent real-time billing is a system that integrates the billing of all the services of a company on one platform. In NTC’s context, the system will streamline billing for all of its services from GSM mobile, NT Fiber, and all Ntc internet services.

Additionally, the system will allow the company to provide management of customers in multiple network/services through one system.

Also, the company is planning to achieve better customer care services and increase customer satisfaction through the system. Nepal Telecom already is already running a convergent real time billing system (CRTB) which was supplied by AsiaInfo in 2012.

The notice states that companies interested in participating in the bidding process for the advanced billing system for Ntc can apply by 24 Baisakh, 2082 BS. The company has a fixed bidding fee of Rs 1 lakh (USD 720) while the bid security is set at Rs 12 crore, 10 lakh, 79 thousand (USD 870,000).

The new billing system shall incorporate 34 million customers in several networks: 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G, VoLTE, VoNR, VoWiFi, IoT, FTTH, IPTV, Leased line, Internet and wireline/wireless broadband services. While the works for migration of the customers in existing billing system, recharge system is also included. We can expect the company to bring latest and innovative services like family sharing plan, parent control, etc.
