While the mid-range competition is getting more tougher,  almost one phone is being added in this segment every month in Nepal. This time, Vivo has brought Vivo Y19 in Nepal with very competitive pricing. Although the phone seems to lack behind in performance and build quality, there is a lot more the phone has to offer. Following the trend of other Y-series smartphones, the new one will is available across offline stores in Nepal.

Display and Design

The smartphone features a 6.53-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels. There is a tiny waterdrop notch on the top of the screen for the selfie camera. The screen has an aspect ratio of 19:5:9 and a screen to body ratio of 90.3 percent. The IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen on the phone looks sharp and vivid but the AMOLED would have been a lot better.

While it comes to the design, there is nothing pretty much exciting. The handset follows the primitive design pattern of the Vivo mid-range phones. The company calls it a “3D Micro Arc Curvature Design” for the curve it has on the back. There is a fingerprint scanner at the back and a huge display upfront. The phone weighs 193 grams and has a dimension of 162.2 x 76.5 x 8.9 mm.

Performance and Chipset

To power up the device, there is a MediaTek Helio P65 chipset that comes paired with 6GB of RAM. The phones look pretty sturdy on the hardware front with its chipset and ample RAM.  The storage is backed by 128GB of internal storage and there’s also a microSD card support to extend the storage space. The MediaTek Helio P65 is based on 12nm architecture and packs Octa-core (2×2.0 GHz Cortex-A75 & 6×1.7 GHz Cortex-A55) processor. This is a well-known chipset and we can expect some good performance from it. The graphics part is handled by the Mali-G52 MC2 GPU clocked at 820 MHz.

The software part is backed by FunTouch OS 9.2 UI based Android 9 Pie. We can expect the phone to get the new Andoird 10 OS but there are no official words to date. For gamers, the Vivo Y19 comes with support for Multi-Turbo and Game Space which theoretically boosts up the gaming performance and optimize battery life.

Camera

Although the phone has a triple camera setup at the back, none of them seems to be interesting. There is a 16-megapixel primary sensor with an aperture of f/1.8. The second the third is the 8-megapixel ultrawide lens and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. We can expect decent photos from these cameras but a lot of phones at this price range have got greater camera capabilities than this these days.

For the selfies, there is a 16 MP, f/2.0 lens that sits at the tiny notch at the front. Both the front and the back camera can shoot 1080p videos at 30fps and no option for 4K video recording. This phone’s camera is almost identical to that of Vivo S1 but the S1 has 32MP selfie shooter.

Battery, Connectivity, and Others

For the juice, the Vivo Y19 packs an impressive 5,000mAh battery that comes with support for 18W dual-engine fast charging. The good news is that the phone also supports the reverse charging of 5W which acts as a power bank to charge other devices and the bad news is that it still comes with a micro-USB.

Connectivity option includes Dual-SIM (Nano), WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0, A-GPS/GLONASS/GALILEO and a Micro-USB. That’s not all, the handset comes with a feature called “Voice Changer” with which you can change your voice to a different character.

Price and Availability in Nepal

The phone is available in two color variants of Magnetic Black and Spring White which looks premium with its gradient finish at the back.

Looking at the overall specifications and the price, the phone is a decent offering from Vivo. But is this all to make it a great phone? There are certainly better phones in the market at this price range but Vivo Y19 is also a great option. The major competitors in the market for this phone are Redmi Note 8 Pro, Honor 9X, Galaxy M30s, Redmi Note 8, Oppo A5 2020 and more. Vivo Y19 is certainly a decent choice and also one of the good phones under Rs. 30000 in Nepal.
