Xiaomi 18 Pro Max launched with 2nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6

Xiaomi has launched the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max and the Xiaomi 18 Pro in China, direct successors to last year’s Xiaomi 17 Pro series. The standard Xiaomi 18 wasn’t unveiled, and there are reports that the company will unveil it separately later. It’s a similar path to the iPhone 18 Pro series Apple did recently. Xiaomi 18 Pro Max Price and Availability

Xiaomi 18 Pro starts at CNY 5,999 for 12/256 GB, while the Pro Max variant starts at CNY 6,999. There’s also a red transparent Pro Max model, which comes in red with 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. The phones have already gone up for sale in China, and more strikingly, the phones are launching globally. The phones ship in black, white, pink, red, blue, and other colorways.  

The company hasn’t said much more than that, but we expect a Q4 launch date for the phones. It also matters because these phones look China-centric, but their global expansion will send ripples across the global markets and offer stiff competition to Samsung and Apple.   

Design and Display

Xiaomi 18 Pro carries a 6.4-inch LTPO AMOLED screen, while the Pro Max features a 6.9-inch screen of the same technology. Both rock up to 4000 nits of peak brightness and a 120Hz refresh rate. The screens have protection from Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass 3. Likewise, the Pro and the Pro Max phones get 2.7-inch and 2.9-inch screens on the rear side. The rear display works as a secondary screen for notifications and other cool stuff like pinning everyday tools, previewing selfies, etc.

Both phones come with rounded corners, which makes it easy to grip the phone. The Pro model weighs up to 208 grams, while the Pro Max is slightly heavier, up to 240 grams. Both come with aluminum frames, which give them a sturdy and bold body language. An IP68 certification on both means they are well protected from water and dust. Likewise, the Pro model gets two speakers, while the Pro Max model gets three speakers for an immersive audio experience.

The chipset and software

The 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max debut Qualcomm’s two new chips. The 18 Pro gets the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6. The premium model, 18 Pro Max, gets the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. Both are built using TSMC’s 2nm process. They clock up to 5GHz. Both phones come with 12 and 16 GB of RAM and 256/512 and 1 TB of storage options.

The Extreme chip has a better heat management feature thanks to a new cooling system. The company says graphics-intensive titles can retain their full frame rate for up to an hour.  

The phone runs on HyperOS 4 software. You can send files to an iPhone now, and both these phones pair well with Apple Watch.

Cameras

Both Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max have identical camera setups. Both feature a Leica-tuned 200MP main camera on a 1/1.28-inch sensor, accompanied by a 200MP periscope telephoto on a 1/1.56-inch sensor with 3.2x optical zoom. The third camera is a 50MP ultrawide, covering a 102-degree field of view.

Battery, Connectivity, Privacy Screen

Xiaomi 18 Pro features a 7,000mAh battery, while the Pro Max gets an 8,500mAh cell. Both phones come with 100W wired, 50W wireless, and 27W reverse wireless charging support. The phones’ screens have a privacy screen, which makes it hard to see and read stuff from the side. You can switch the feature on for chosen apps.
