OnePlus Oppo Merge

The Chinese smartphone brands Oneplus and OPPO have Merged. OnePlus will now operate as the OPPO sub-brand, meaning both will retain their names.

The two Chinese smartphone brands OnePlus and OPPO are now one single entity. As both phone makers are owned by BBK Electronics, the move further strengthens their and will help them expand their product range with more advanced tech and innovations in the future.

Pete Lau, OnePlus CEO took to the company’s forum and announced the merger without using the word ‘merge’ explicitly. But he pointed out their close ties. He said both companies were working closely since last year to “better streamline our operations and capitalize on additional shared resources“.

The optimistic CEO further said the deeper integration with OPPO means OnePlus will have “more resources at hand to create even better products for you.” He further pointed that the merger will help OnePlus to roll out “faster and more stable software updates for Oneplus users.”

OnePlus is popular among its customers for its dedication to the camera, display, design, and its stylish Android skin, Oxygen OS. Meanwhile, OPPO is becoming a very influential smartphone brand. In March, it became the number one smartphone brand in China. Further integration with OPPO will aid Oneplus to bring better products and services in the future.

Will It Impact Your Oneplus Device?

Not likely. At least not for now. As mentioned above, Both brands have been working together for a while and the merger seems just an act to formalize their cooperation. Although Oneplus is now a sub-brand, it will still operate independently.

To sum it up, the merger will only strengthen OnePlus further. They will coordinate with OPPO meanwhile run their smartphone operation on its own. To sum it up, Oneplus will have more resources at its disposal and bring even better products in the future. As for existing OnePlus smartphone users, you will be entitled to faster updates and more features on your devices in the coming days.

Being a technophile, I am particularly fascinated by the evolution of mobile networks in Nepal from legacy networks (2G, 3G) to 4G (with VoLTE, VoWiFi, eSIM) and the prospects of the upcoming 5G, and equally enthralled by the development of internet from the dial-up connection to the 2 Gbps XGS-PON fiber broadband technology and their transformative impact in the country.
