Huawei Nepal CEO Says Nepal has Great Potential for Digital Transformation

Speaking at the Huawei Digital Nepal Conclave 2022, Huawei Nepal CEO William Zhang stated that Nepal possesses great potential for digital transformation. He also pointed to the need for a secure and reliable data center and called for digital inclusion for an overall ICT development.

On the occasion, he delivered a speech giving a peek into Huawei’s driving vision in telecommunications, and his personal suggestions on what Nepal should do to reinforce the digital expansion and inclusion.

Mr. Zhang shared that ICT is the driving force of economic development. And the next industrial revolution is already there. But then he pointed out the need for a green revolution. Emphasizing eco-friendly and sustainable development, he shared that “reducing CO2 emissions will be at the heart of all that we do.”

Meanwhile, the world’s post-Covid recovery will be fueled by the digital economy as the investments continue to pile up. In 2020, the global GDP fell by 2.8% but ICT investments increased by 5%. Mr.Zhang refers to a stat that by 2025, the world’s 50% of the economy will go digital. The times are only getting more exciting for the ICT industry across the world.

Data center, security, and privacy

Data has become a key resource in the world of the internet and communication and localization is the global trend. At this, Nepal should also jump in and introduce data industry strategies and policies governing cross-border information flow. But the industry must give a special focus on data security and data privacy.

He emphasized that right now, Nepal needs a reliable, secure, and sovereign data center. This helps in many folds especially since it allows for collecting and preserving data belonging to Nepali citizens. Significantly, this also makes it possible to provide integrated government services and serve as the foundation for Digital Nepal.

While Nepal has exciting prospects for digital transformation, Huawei Nepal CEO also says a sustainable society is only possible while fully embracing the ICT industry. It will also play a role to realize a low-carbon industry, which has become an agenda of sorts for the tech giant.

Likewise, connectivity has become a veritable need even in the nooks and corners of the country. People use the internet for video calling, online learning, or electronic payments. Digital connectivity is empowering people, small businesses, and industries.
