Popular messaging app Telegram has launched a Premium version with an array of new features. As per the company, the users can subscribe to the paid version at $5 per month.
With this, the growingly popular app has become the latest Instant Messaging service to offer a paid subscription. Telegram Premium will be available for subscription to its massive base of 700 million monthly users.
And while the premium version brings more features, the regular one will still be available with existing features.
What features would come with the Telegram Premium?
In a lengthy post, the company said the premium version brings to users features such as doubled limits, 4 GB file downloads, faster download speeds, exclusive stickers, and improved chat management. In addition, the users will get additional reactions to make their interaction more fun and engaging.
Meanwhile, “all existing features that users have come to expect and rely on for nearly a decade remain free,” says the company. At the same time, non-premium users can also enjoy a few Premium version benefits. This includes downloading extra-large documents and viewing stickers sent by premium users. Besides, you can also tap to increase counters on premium reactions already added to a message.
However, standard version users won’t be able to upload extra-large size documents.
Telegram Premium also allows following up to 1000 channels, and creating up to 20 chat folders. It can contain chats each, pin 10 chats where you can save up to 10 favorite stickers. Besides, you can also add a fourth account to the app.
There are also features such as unique reactions, premium badges, and voice-to-text conversation on the premium version.
“The contributions of premium subscribers will help improve and expand the app for decades to come, while Telegram will remain free, independent and uphold its users-first values, redefining how a tech company should operate,” the company wrote in a statement.
With the latest update, Telegram says, the app has got 100 bugs fixed and made several optimizations on both mobile and desktop apps. Meanwhile, iOS users will notice “significantly smoother animations” of up to (120 FPS) on the app.
On the other hand, Android users can expect better audio/video quality in voice and video messages.
The updated app will roll out gradually. The company says if the app is not offering an update, it will be available soon.
