Nepal Telecom has launched its 4G mobile broadband service in Limi and Muchu villages in Humla. With this, the locals around Jang, Halji, and Til lying in upper Namkha Rural Municipality- 6, now have access to high-speed mobile internet service. The company started the broadband services by setting up two cellular towers in the area.
Prior to this, those sites had VSAT link for transmission connectivity. However, for 4G broadband service, the VSAT link in Limi and Muchu were replaced by a high capacity Microwave link from Nara ko Lek.
The launch of the advanced mobile service has been the result of a 3-year effort. Due to the complex geography, establishing the telecom service is not easy in much of the Northern parts of Nepal. However, the state-backed company has made it a priority to connect far-flung areas across the country.
To launch the cellular network, Ntc set up its base stations (BTS) at an elevation of over 4.5 thousand meters. The 4G towers cover the areas of Til, Halji, and Jang villages. As stated, due to the uneven terrain, communication services are hard to get by. However, the expansion is accelerating thanks to telcos’ initiatives.
Nepal Telecom launches high-speed 4G network in Limi, Muchu
With 4G coming to Limi, of the Humala district, the locals around the coverage of the network have access to fast internet service on their smartphones. Namkha Rural Municipality-6 Ward Chairman Paljor Tamang said that the fourth-generation Ntc 4G has now enabled people to connect with their relatives in and out of the country.
At the same time, Namkha Rural Municipality’s Chief Administrative Officer Mohan Bahadur Shahi said that the availability of 4G has now eliminated the need to spend heavily on internet services.
Halji village has already got broadband service from an internet service provider. However, Tamang added that due to its slow connection, the local body made calls for 4G service. Now, they can browse the internet on their mobile phones and also activate VoLTE for HD phone calls.
Now, out of 6, 5 wards have been connected by Ntc 4G. Due to the faster internet capacity, the locals and also the offices will be benefited from their daily operations.
In cellular communication standards, 4G is the fourth-generation network with higher broadband capacity than 3G. Ntc first launched 4G in 2017 in Nepal and has expanded it across the country. So far, the company has connected 98% of local levels with its 4G broadband service with its user base surpassing 1.25 crores as of NTA’s Chaitra data. It’s also noteworthy that Ntc has discontinued its WiMAX and CDMA services to focus on 4G and other networks.
