Key takeaways:

  • Ncell has started providing free data to customers who are suffering from ongoing floods and landslides
  • It is also working closely with agencies to reinforce rescue and relief efforts

Ncell has announced that it has started providing free data to users affected by heavy floods and landslides on Sept 28, 2024. Making the announcement via a presser, the private telco also said that it’s collaborating with various disaster relief agencies to help with immediate rescue and relief operations.

The private telco’s free data facility comes amidst heavy rainfall-induced floods and landslides across the country. “As a responsible corporate citizen, Ncell is committed to ensuring that you can communicate with friends, family, and essential support systems during this crisis,” the telco said.

Ncell said that it is “deeply concerned about the hardships of millions of Nepalese” during these monsoon times.  The company said that in such times, connectivity becomes even more important. That is why, the telco has announced that it is providing free mobile internet to its customers.

Being a technophile, I am particularly fascinated by the evolution of mobile networks in Nepal from legacy networks (2G, 3G) to 4G (with VoLTE, VoWiFi, eSIM) and the prospects of the upcoming 5G, and equally enthralled by the development of internet from the dial-up connection to the 2 Gbps XGS-PON fiber broadband technology and their transformative impact in the country.
