The first month of FY 2082/83, Shrawan has seen smartphone imports worth Rs 3.41 arba. The figure comes via the Department of Customs’ latest data for the same month.

During the month, Nepal brought in 198,333 units of smartphones from 29 different countries. Among them, China represented the highest smartphone transaction with Nepal, followed by India. And this is a consistent trend for Nepal. Usually, if not always, China has been the largest importer of smartphones for Nepal.

The list doesn’t list phones that enter Nepal via the grey market. MDMS was touted to end illegal sales/purchases of phones, but the security system hasn’t come into operation due to corruption cases.

Anyway, Nepal made smartphone imports worth Rs 35.54 billion in FY 2081/82, so the smartphone industry is slowly reviving to its better stage. Nepal is also approaching the holiday season as Dashain and Tihar festivities approach. So, the market shall bustle with greater sales during the period.
